Data security with Family contact list? Birthdates included Bad? - 17 years ago

I have been putting together a contact list of all my Family Members. Right now I have sent out a Excel worksheet and have them send back with their info on it. The fields I have are Last name First name Address City State Zip Home Ph Cell Ph email B-day A few have expressed concern over having their personal info + Birthday going into cyberspace via email. Any Risk with that?

Anybody using the EyeTV 200 get shows off their DVR's? Making dvd's came up in a thread yesterday and I thought maybe that would be a solution. I think the EyeTV 200 can also export to ipod. gg

No monthly fee? I pay Dish $5.99 extra for DVR, going to $6.99 shortly. I think one advantage to the 625 is dual receiver/ dual dvr. My older one can only due one channel. Other than that It is Great and a very nice feature having DVR. It would be nice to get stuff off of it to the computer though. gg

My wife wants a simple program to make personalized labels and envelops. Something that can put clipart on the label, for things like Birthday parties or Christmas. Any suggestions? I was thinking, SOHO Labels & Envelopes. Any experience with this program? I have a trial version, but it won't allow printing. Is it worth the $30.00? gg

Has Office on one computer but the password was reset and she can't get in. The company that built it for her didn't give her the disks. Doorstop. She needs an office suite for her other one, cheap. Any recommendations? She has always needed a pc for her embroidery machine, she might be selling that so maybe I can get her to a Mac eventually. gg

Mom wants to learn ebay selling, what programs for PC - 17 years ago

My mom wants me to teach her how to start using ebay to sell things. She uses Windows 2000 pro. Are there any simple auction programs that she could get to help her get them set up? I use appleworks to create my text/fonts/colors for my description. Then save as html and paste into the ebay description window. Can't show her that method since she doesn't have a mac. gg

My friend uses Mac but the file is caused by person using Outlook as email. It was a simple fix and I have included links that explain and for a program to extract the jpegs. Used this program to extract the jpegs he wanted. simple fix gg

I can get QIF format, but when I import to quicken it duplicates ones I have entered manually. Problem with not entering manually and just downloading the QIF file is transactions don't show until they clear. You can end up with a lot of things out there that aren't in the register. I like to keep a close accounting of actual balance. gg

I just started using my banks online banking/billpay. I can use safari to use their web based service but they don't offer direct connection through quicken. Yes she could use her CRT with her new one. I just thought it would be a waste to buy the Hp with included LCD that is too small for her. Though she has been saying for a while that she would like a laptop to cut down on all the clutter. Any decent low end PC laptops out there? gg

Moms PC died today, wants advice - 17 years ago

My mom called me today and said her PC died. It is several years old, the place that built it for her told her over the phone it is not worth rebuilding. She calls me and asks how good are the Hp's at Walmart? Said they are under $500 with a 15 LCD, which I think would be too small since she has 19" CRT now. I said probably not too good. But she is looking for a basic machine for web.

I sold my ibook before Christmas hoping apple would bring out the new intel ibooks. So much for the rumor sites. Now I will probably wait some more. No way am I spending 2K on a laptop/2nd computer. Just don't need a Macbook Pro even though they seem nice. Maybe the 12" powerbooks will go cheap, or I'll just grab a refurb 1.33 ibook. gg

I have seen many posts about TVio, but how about putting some of my Dishnetwork DVR shows on to DVD? Best ways to transfer? I have thought about buying a Canopus for some Analog conversions. Would that work for the DVR? Any other ideas? gg

Got it back. I changed her account from Simplified to Standard. The first attempt it opened to her desktop but it was very basic. Couldn't even open a Finder window. Logged out, tried again and everything is back. gg
