Quotespace-time Folks, if he has power lines going from the main building to his shed, the simplest solution is power line adapter, you can buy a 500 Mbps rated pair and should achieve 100 or more Mbps. There is no need to run additional cables. I have power gong to shed but it is a large service feed that feeds a 100 amp panel in the shed. QuoteN-OS X-tasy! You can't terminate a fiber for "a Cat 6 connection" - Cat 6 is copper cable, not fiber. I realize that but there must me some box to terminate the fiber in and then change to cat 6? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
QuoteFilliam H. Muffman If you are willing to spend the money, run fiber optic and you won't have the problems with grounding and lightning. How much are we talking here to pull a fiber run of 125' through installed conduit and terminated on both ends for cat6 connection? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Moving forward with extending my network to my extra garage that is less than 200' from my cat6 patch panel in my house. I have 1-1/2" electrical conduit buried connecting the buildings. What cat6 cable do I need underground? outdoor, regular? Do I need lightning suppression with cable in conduit? Both ends? Gigabit available? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
QuoteRobert M Goose, A surveillance system seems pointless if it won't be running 24/7. This leads to the key question... If you're going to go with a Mac based configuration, do you have a machine with lots of storage you can leave running 24/7 as the "home" of your surveillance system? Ok this is going to take a lot more research. Distance between my buildings is 110' so any vehicle parked in front of my attached garage would be maybe 90' to from the camera to the vehicle. Patio doors could be covered from inside and would probably be easier install. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I will check security spy. I live in a rural area and do have a security system but it would be nice to have a camera on my out building pointed towards my house. It would cover the driveway and anyone that pulls in. POE not need here, I can power it easily. It would also be nice to have a outdoor camera covering my two patio doors. I am looking for some good IP cameras that are easy to set up and can be monitored from iPhones and macs. I would like them to be able to record to a drive on the network. I can use hardwired, and think I might prefer that. Need a few outdoor to put in the gables and a few indoor. Would like to get email or text alerts if motion is detected on some of the cameras. Any suggestions?by goosegunner - Tips and Deals
It really depends on who helps you. A few years ago my daughter cracked her screen on her macbook pro. It was out of warranty by two weeks and she did not have applecare. The tech checked it over and said it is normally a $475 dollar repair but you have never had it in for anything. We will fix it for free. Thanks Apple! ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
QuoteKraniac Badgers got taken out by smart fouls at the beginning of the skinny minute..pretty much shut em down and gottem behind the eight ball, mentally...Looked to me like Winslow touched that basketball..if you're gonna review it you have to go the distance..clearly his finger hit it. There is no way Winslow wasn't the last touch. Tv replay clearly showed it, I am sure the ref's have theby goosegunner - Tips and Deals

Quotesilvarios Oh, you bought the MBA, not the new MacBook. Totally misread your post. No, great deal. Sorry. Stupid me. Hey no problem, I was hoping you had a line on some cheaper and faster Macbook airs than my $500. I was hoping the $500 ones would reappear in the refurb store but no such luck. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Yeah, I looked at those and they had a few open box 13" for $750 to $810. But I wanted something a little cheaper for my daughter to use for about a year. Its funny how easy it is to keep getting tempted into moving up a little. I started out looking for $300-$400 macbook pro. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals

So how do the older macbook pro 13" like 2009 or 2010 compare to a newer Macbook air 2011 or 2012 speed wise? Yesterday at the apple store I tried the new air vs a new 13" macbook pro and there was a noticeable difference in just loading the same web page. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I was mistaken it is a 120 gig drive, It is the early 2008 macbook. So yes it is stuck with Lion for the highest OS. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I have a nice condition 2008 macbook 2.1 ghz. 2 gig, 160 gig. The max OS is 10.7.5. I read somewhere on the board that being 10.7.5 is no longer being supported you should be careful about using on the internet. Is there truth to that? QuoteBill in NC "They use some sort of Google documents to do and store work. " Then why bother with a Macbook? At our high school they're issuing Chromebooks in the fall since everything is to be done online via Google. I am looking for a used macbook or macbook air for my daughter to use at her high school. She has a few online classes and it would be helpful to have a computer at school. I would like it to at least run Mavericks, preferably Yosemite. They use some sort of Google documents to do and store work. I have found a few mid 2009 MacBooks for around $300. QuoteBlack Quotejh Questioned my wife on the 500 gigs when I first heard her say that. Probably 500 megs. If that the case then not a good deal in my opinion. Misses says we pay $80 a month. I live in a rural area with DSL of 6meg down. I would like to extend my wifi network. I currently have a Wrt54g that is running dd-wrt. It has been stable with virtually no problems. We were very involved with building our house in 1997. Finished square feet of 2850. The drywall job alone on new construction was $10,000. I would guess you would never get your money back. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Thanks for the input so far! My problem is old photos on drives that are external and different versions of iPhoto. I did update one today and started going through some of the pictures. I really need to do something different with our digital photos. I have multiple years going back to 2002 on a couple of different hard drives. Quotejdc Quotegoosegunner It actually has a 250gig drive and I have only 80gig free. gg Like Robert mentioned, its different for everyone. I don't keep my iPhoto (100+ GB) or my iTunes (120+ GB) on my SSD. I have the luxury of a second 1 TB HDD in my machine. Selfies aren't eating up as much space as you might think? QuoteRobert M Goose, Minimum size for the OS and minimum size for what you need on your system are the same. I've found a 32 gigs is adequate for the OS, a few apps and a bunch of installers. I know people have posted saying they've made barebones boot disks with less storage but, in my experience, less than 32 gigs doesn't cut it.
