It is the stock 16gig, I think it was STEC. Yes TRIM support is that needed on the Dell Mini? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Ok thanks! Now to clean up the drive somehow to get down to a level of an affordable ssd. Kids have the thing loaded down with so many selfie photos its ridiculous! Also I might try to offload the itunes library to drive somewhere. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I sold my ipad 1 so I got my Dell mini 9 out of the closet, upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6. It has been a pleasant upgrade and seems very usable. I read some where that with a ssd you should enable something with terminal to extend its life. Is that something that should be done on the dell mini? If so what and how? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
QuoteSpeedy Yes, not important, no, no. Go SSD. Would you recommend staying at 4 gigs on the macbook pro and go with ssd first? or jump to 8 gig? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I am looking to add some memory to the following; 2008 Macbook currently 2 gigs (max 6 gigs). I have a 2 gig in my dell mini that is DDR2 667, Would that work in the Macbook so I could just purchase another to go to 4 gigs? How important is it to have matched pairs/ brands? Would a 2gig and a 1 gig decrease performance? 2010 Macbook pro currently 4 gigs (max 16 gigs) Appby goosegunner - Tips and Deals

QuotePaul F. I got one from OWC a few months ago, and it's in service with no issues. Was it $89? What is a typical hour number given when fully charged? How about the ones for $30, Anyone have luck with those? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
The 2008 Macbook I bought yesterday needs a new battery. It displays a X on it most of the time and its says No batteries available. Does anyone know if that indicates any other problems with charging? So when buying a knew battery has any one had luck with the cheaper aftermarket batteries? If so where did you get them? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Yes I remember that! I think they were 120gig from staples maybe? edit, Actually now that I think about it, they were a lot smaller than 120gig,,,, Closer to the 20 you said. Boy have things changed since then. I think that was back on the Dealmac forum maybe? gg QuoteBlack Quotegoosegunner I here what you are saying about snow Leopard. I like it better. Today I bought a 2008 Macbook 2.1 ghz , 120gig, 2gig ram model 4,1 for $130.00 I have been looking for an extra computer to have in the house so our daughter doesn't take the Macbook pro all the time. It needs a new battery. I think I am going to install Lion right away so I can use cloud. How do you think Lion will run? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Does the wifi model have the app for maps? I ask because I am in the same boat. I just sold my ipad 1 64gig 3g so I could upgrade soon. We took it with us when we drove to Florida and the maps is really handy on a screen the size of an ipad. It really helps when you are traveling to seen where you are on a nice size screen. I can hotspot my iphone 5 but not sure if the ipad map wilby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
QuoteCatzilla Quotegoosegunner He now has some type of G4 tower running 9.6. Once he gets his files he said he is done with the Macs and switching to all PC which he has now. gg If he is still using a G4 I really can't blame for switching. The thing he was using before was even older. What ever he had before died. He bought the G4 hoping to put the drive in it to get his files. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Ok, Maybe I am mistaken on the drive type. The Connector on drive looked similar to an IDE drive but it was wider. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals

Thanks mattkime I trust your advice, Your help was the only reason I got that linksys running dd-wrt. I just looked and that was back in 2009. Been solid ever since. At times we have these running, 2 macbook pros ipad roku (ethernet) 4 iphonesby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I would like to get a little better range out of my wireless network. I currently have a WRT54g with dd-wrt. It has been solid for a few years since I put on the new firmware. Now that we have iPhones roaming around the house and outdoors I would like to extend the range. I have read that extending via wireless will diminish speed. If I add another WRT54g on the main level connected viaby goosegunner - Tips and Deals

I had a keyboard for my iPad but found the touch keyboard more useful so I returned it. The beauty of the iPad is portability and use anywhere. It is too cumbersome to sit on couch with a keyboard attached to it. You also lose the predictive type. For light surfing just the iPad is best just by itself. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
QuotepRICE cUBE Another operating expense the USPS subsidizes is rural mail delivery. The people in the comments saying that a private business approach will be better for their rural tax-dollars need to examine the extra expense Fedex and UPS tack on. Then after knowing the true cost of the "last mile", make your decision. I guessing Fedex and UPS don't want to deliver a letter forby goosegunner - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteGrateful11 Quoteh linamen My brother-in-law retired from the USPS and explained it this way just this week. (don't know if true). He said USPS is actually making a profit if you disregard some government requirement to fund the next 75 years pension money within a 10 year period. If true, how stupid is that? Sounds like I might have to find another Mac to sit on the network and hold the iTunes media and share. I have plex installed on the MacBook pro, the roku and iPhone. It seems ok to get the media to roku. I looked on Craig's list a little and saw some fairly cheap MacBooks. They would be low power consumption an could use a external drive for extra storage. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
The specs for Plex are higher than using an old computer to run iTunes on the network. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I like the Roku, I have the XS because I wanted the ethernet port. The Roku 3 looks nice with the head phone jack on the remote. I have the Roku app in my iPhone and it works very well! I need to determine how the Roku would handle a usb hard drive. To see if it ever lets the drive spin down or just keeps it wound up 24/7. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Where do you get those and how much hacking to get OSX installed? Would it be good for a centrally located media server in a house? ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Also I was surprised how well the roku does with a movie on a thumdrive that I plugged into the usb port. ggby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
I have started to explore options to have our dvd library available to play on the roku or future appleTV. I am trying plex on the Macbook pro and it seems to work ok with the plex channel on the Roku. I have a cat6 networt to all locations for TV. How would you recommend having the content available at anytime in the house? How powerful hardware does it take to serve iTunes and movieby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
Same thing here mostly just used to get information. After getting used to the portability of macbook pro, iPad 1st generation and now iPhone's I don't know if I will ever get another desktop computer. However my thing now is how do I tie everything together to share info. I have a solid Cat6/wifi network in the house and I want to be able to keep iTunes, videos, and files centrally locatedby goosegunner - Tips and Deals
