I am trying to help a photographer friend with his questions about his Mac Pro vs. his MacBook Pro. He has a 2012 Mac Pro with the 3.33 GHz six core processor with 48 GB of RAM and a 2012 15" MacBook Pro with a Quad Core I7 2.3 GHz processor with 16 GB of RAM. There are two questions. First, should the Mac Pro be as fast or faster than the Mac Book Pro when running Photoshop? His MacBookby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
QuoteChakravartin What's the print quality set to? Are you printing at higher than 600x600? My brother laser doesn't print photos well until I kick it up to 1200x1200. I did try that and it did improve the quality. It still is darker than before, though.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Okay, I just did some more testing and here's what I found. When I print from InDesign CS6 on my MacBook with Snow Leopard, it printed out much lighter than when printing from InDesign CC on my MacBook Pro in Mountain Lion. I then downloaded InDesign CS6 on my MacBook Pro and printed from there and it still comes out darker than Snow Leopard printed it. I will say I exaggerated how grainy theby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I tried printing last month's issue (which printed fine in July from Snow Leopard) but it looked just as crappy coming out from Mountain Lion so it's not the file. Mattkimm, I am now using InDesign CC when I was using InDesign CS6 although I don't think that's the issue because I exported the file to a PDF and printed it out of Acrobat and it looked the same. Then, I took one of the photos anby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I recently moved from a white MacBook running Snow Leopard to a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. I use a Brother HL-5370DW laser printer that has always printed photos beautifully for a mono printer. (I have a newsletter that I print three copies out for the members of our club that don't do email. Everyone else gets it electronically.) I just got a new MacBook Pro and used setup assistant to transfer my settings from my white MacBook running Snow Leopard. My white MacBook had an SSD installed and I am now replacing the internal hard drive that came with the MacBook Pro with the SSD. I used my docking system to clone the MacBook Pro's hard drive data (running Mountain Lion) back to the SSD. It went remarkably fast, which madeby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Okay, I fixed it. (At least for now.) I found a forum post that suggested this to someone having issues and it worked: "you can try deleting com.apple.airport.preferences.plist, NetworkInterfaces.plist, and preferences.plist form /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and restart to get the airport interface working again" I failed to mention I'm on OS X 10.6.8.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Okay, this has happened twice lately. First, I couldn't connect to PayPal for a day on my White MacBook. It kept timing out. I was able to go to other websites and really wasn't seeing any other problem with accessing the Internet. I, finally, decided to see if PayPal could be accessed by a friend on his computer. (That way, I could figure out if it was an issue with PayPal or on my end.) When Iby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Quotesekker Quotemagicmikey My son is almost 15 years old. It will be used for school work, watching movies, playing games, email, etc. I would prefer not buying a PC laptop but that's what he wants. I had this kind of battle with a good friend of the family. Sounds like the real reason he wants to go PC is to play games. My recommendation is to really assess his school needs and find goby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

My son's white MacBook apparently needs a logic board and I'm trying to decide if it's worth repairing or if I would be better off selling it for parts. It's a 2.0 gHz Intel Core 2 Duo model with 2GB of RAM and a 120 MB hard drive. It was purchased about 3 1/2 years from Apple as a refurbished model. Earlier this year, the display went out and we replaced it at a cost of around $250. Now, the Appby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

I purchased my son a LG 24" LED TV (720p) yesterday. At 24", I wasn't worried about it being 1080P but, today, Best Buy now has a LG 24" LED Monitor w/ built-in TV Tuner that is 1080p for $10 more. He will be using this as a TV with an XBox connected but he wants to also, occasionally, use it to connect his MacBook Pro to use it as a monitor. Both the TV we bought and the monitor hby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

Here's a review I found interesting: I seriously considered the Nexus 7 but it isn't compatible with the Square credit card reader and I need that capability. I was getting by using my 2nd Gen. iPod Touch to run Square but now I can't since the latest Square updated requires iOS 5 or above and my iPod can't be upgraded. I've been using Photo Manager Pro for my iPod Touch and will be using it with my iPad Mini when it comes in: As a photographer, I was frustrated that I couldn't arrange photos in the order I wanted them in on my Touch. Photo Manager Pro took care of that.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Quotedatbeme QuoteMy second issue with the Fire was how imprecise it was. I got tired of tapping a link on a Web page only to have a different link highlighted nearby! What a silly concern. Just kidding, that's got to be the most frustrating shortcoming a product could have. Quotepinkoos ...I'll check out the actual display ones at the Apple Store on launch day and if the non-retina display is a deal-breaker for me, I'll just return mine unopened (though I could even open and use it and return without a restocking fee at the retail Apple Store). I ordered one as soon as I got up this morning (6:30 a.m. Eastern time.) I was surprised to see that the initial supply of white ones was already sold out so I bought a black one. It depends on how they like to use it. For instance, my 14 year old son likes to take his iPod Touch everywhere he goes. He listens to music on it and plays games. He even watches videos through Netflix. On the other hand, I keep a Kindle Fire with me because my eyes aren't what they used to be. (I've been waiting impatiently for the iPad Mini!) QuotepRICE cUBE QuoteAllGold Call me a skeptic but I'm expecting full-on crippled AF. Initial reports indicate focus down to -3ev, that doesn't sound completely crippled to me. If this had the 7D 19 point AF I would be more encouraged. I'm really disappointed Canon chose to go to an 11 point AF on this rather than the 19 point system. As a 7D user, it would truly seem to be a step back. I haby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

You might want to get a quote for both your auto insurance and renter's insurance through another insurance carrier. If you are in the Eastern part of the U.S., check for an Erie Insurance agent:by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
In many circumstances, adding a minimum premium renter's insurance policy will cost next to nothing if it adds a multi-policy discount to your auto insurance. If you have an auto insurance policy with a major carrier, most of them will give you a multi-policy discount for having a renter's policy and that discount can significantly offset the cost of the renter's policy.
