Quotejardster I send dozens of attachments to windows users weekly using Mail.app, mostly PDFs and MS Word docs. No problems. Sounds like maybe a setting issue in Mail.app? I don't think so. I've read lots of posts in different places with similar issues and my understanding is that Mail.app does not handle attachments well when sending to Windows users. I can send an email with a PDF attachmby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I started having problems with Windows users not getting my attachments from Mail.app last Summer. The most consistent issue was with simple PDF attachments. (I use OS X 10.4.11 and Mail 2.1.3.) I tried zipping them and still had problems. Now, I'm having problems with JPEG files not being received properly. I have Zipped them and some get them and some do not. It's driving me crazy! I am a member of a forum that has some instructional videos that can be viewed/downloaded. They recently added some new ones (all are WMV) that will play properly in MS Media Player 9 for Mac but play properly in VLC or in Flip4Mac. In VLC and Flip4Mac, there's no audio, although the video is fine. I became aware that they will play in the MS Player 9 when I posted a thread asking if any Mac uby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Interesting. I ordered a refurbished iPod Touch for my son on Monday. At the time, the Apple website clearly indicated that current software meant the January update so I didn't have an expectation that 2.0 update was included. I looked now and they have removed the note about current software being the January update. That should cause them quite a lot of headaches! Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
The reliability thing is making me nervous! I swore off iBooks after the G3 I have flaked out but this G4 seems tempting. The price is right and he says it's in fantastic condition. I really am not in position to spend much more than this so it may be the best option. I just hate to have another iBook fail. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Quoteincognegrothe 14" screen & G4 processor make it worth $325 if the battery is decent. even better if it includes the original software CDs and/or box. Unfortunately, this is a 12" iBook. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I posted hear earlier about my laptop issues: Well, I just came across a 12" G4 iBook for sale. It's a 1 gHz model, with Airport Extreme, 512 mb RAM, and combo drive. He says it's in excellent condition with no scratches, no dead pixels and a reasonably fresh battery (although my iBook battery is nearly new and can be used with this one.) I think I can get it for around $325. Is thaby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

QuoteztirffritzYou don't need to do anything with the .img file. You go to the admin page on the router and go through the update procedure and select that file, upload it, and install the firmware update. Make sure that you're connected using a wire because the wireless connection will go down during the update. If there is a problem you'll need to connected using a hardline. I have a Linksys WRT54GC Wireless Broadband Router. It has worked fine since I bought it. Several months ago, my son's MacBook started dropping the connection on a regular basis for 10 - 15 seconds before he is able to reconnect. (No one else is having any problems even though they are using crappy Belkin USB wireless adapters!) I went to the Genius Bar at the local Apple Store and they told mby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Thanks, Joe. I decided to go with the iMac. The eBay seller had fantastic feedback and responded very quickly to my questions. I got the 800 mHz G4 iMac as described above for $350, including shipping. I might have over paid a little but I didn't want to spend a lot of time searching for a bargain. This seemed reasonable. I posted earlier about my wife's iMac G3 biting the dust. I'm trying to replace her Mac. I was looking a G4 iMacs on eBay. (Lampshade version.) I then started wondering about eMacs but I don't know much about them. Did they have any big problems? All things considered, which would be a better buy a 15" 800 mHz G4 iMac (512mb RAM, 80 GB hard drive, Airport Extreme Card) or a 17" 1.25mby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

If I could get my hands on a nice looking PowerBook G4 1GHz for $400-ish, I'd love it. The problem is they seem to be going for $600+ on eBay. I'll try to be patient and see if I can find one. The $75 reball sounds like a good option. Is there anything I can do to be really sure this is the issue? Here's my situation. I don't need the latest Apple MacBook. I need a reliable laptop to get my e-mail when I'm on the road and to download photos to for viewing (I do photography on a part time basis.) I have a 800mHz G3 iBook I bought on eBay nearly 2 years ago that was perfect. It is maxxed out on RAM (640 mb), has an Airport Card and a recently replaced battery. My wife has been happily using a Graphite G3 iMac SE. (I think it has a 700 mHz processor.) Tonight, she was moving the mouse when the iMac made an electrical noise and completely shut down. It won't restart. It makes no sound whatsoever, although unplugging the AC cord from the computer and replugging it allows the computer to make one short electrical sound when you press the power button and tby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

QuoteMEGHave the guy use a "standard" codec to make the videos. By default Camtasia uses the TechSmith TSCC codec. Since this is not available for the Mac (or Windows by default either AFAIK), you don't get the video. Suggest something like Microsoft Video 1. Point the guy to Techsmith's support page for more info: Showing my lack of knowledge, that support info refers to makiby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

I know that some WMV files use codecs not available to Macs but how do I explain to someone creating a WMV file what settings to use to make it open properly in a Mac? Here's the circumstance, there is a gentleman on a photographic forum I am a member of (it's a paid membership so I can't link to the videos) who has posted several tutorials. I have a signature I use with e-mails that includes a logotype and some text. It was working fine for a couple of years. A couple of weeks ago, the logo would appear at a fraction of its proper size. If deleted the space above the logo, it would go back to it's normal size (approximately 4" wide and 1" tall.) Today, I decided to delete the signature and recreate it to hopefully fix tby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
When I checked my e-mail this morning, I had more than 500 "undeliverable" e-mails returned to me. Of course, none of them are mine but what's up with the sudden deluge? What are the chances that this will continue? I don't want to change my e-mail address. I've had it for years and it uses my domain. Thanks, Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals

QuoteJoeMYou can get a cheap PC for this stuff. I learned a long time ago that if you gotta deal with the MS PC world ( I do all day long), save yourself time and headaches and just use their garbage for the MS centric stuff. I've thought about buying a cheap PC laptop but I just couldn't bring myself to do it! Thanks for the info. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Ah, now that makes sense. Antivirus software is a pain in the butt! I help a friend who has PCs networked and we've gone through three different versions to find the one that works most effectively yet doesn't screw everything else up! Thanks.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Yes, I can have them posted on our website. That's a thought. When you say AV software, what are you referring to? (When I see AV, I think of audio visual and I don't think that's what you mean. )by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
