I've been using LZW compression with TIFFs for a while and I've never seen one get larger than the original. Just to test it, I took a RAW image and converted it to uncompressed TIFF and I then saved the image. I then took the image and re-named it and saved it as a LZW compressed TIFF. The uncompressed file was a little larger than 29 mb and the compressed TIFF was a little larger than 17 mb.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I checked MacFixit before posting here. While there are many sound issues being reported, I haven't seen anyone else posting about this particular issue. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I've seen comments about popping issues with the 10.4.10 update but I haven't read anything about what I've encountered. I'm using a G5 Dual 1.8 and I just moved up to Tiger yesterday. (I was using 10.3.9.) I did an Archive and Install to try to minimize problems. I repaired permissions before and after the install. After installing Tiger, I did a software update as per my regular routine whenby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
QuotejimbradyTwo more $20 credits will buy me a third-of-a--rack of replacement ink carts. I love my Epson R1800. (I still have a 1270 that I use for signs and banners.) I'm sure you'll be happy. The only thing is I don't think you'll be able to use both of your $20 credits on one purchase. I tried to stack mine when I bought a scanner and it was a no-go. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
QuotejimbradyQuotemagicmikey I should have posted that here. Ya think? Sorry. It's my busy season and I didn't get around to it. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Actually, I was able to use my code 10 days ago to purchase a scanner. I tried it for just for kicks (I was hoping that I wouldn't have to wait to order the scanner) and was pleasantly surprised when it worked. I should have posted that here. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
GCD, I'm just looking to separate the mail - not worried about privacy so this will work fine. Thanks for the help. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I'm about to set up a Mac with Tiger on it for my parents. I'd like to give them separate e-mail addresses and an easy way to just see their individual e-mails rather than both. Other than setting them up as separate users in the OS, is there a way to get Mail.app to open only a chosen account? Before I got my wife a computer, we used Netscape Communicator in OS 9.1. Communicator allowed me toby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Cool. I just picked up a refurbished 4490 at the Epson Store. After 10% discount and my Epson settlement (it would only allow one on a purchase,) my cost was $85 including tax! Thanks for the advice.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Well, I do have two $20 credits with Epson from the settlement. I'll have to see what's available from them. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Darn, I was hoping to not have to spend more money! I guess this means my old cards aren't even worth selling. Thanks for clearing it up. Michael P.S. I love my old Umax scanner. I know SCSI is a dinosaur but I was trying to hold onto it as long as possible.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I just acquired a G5 Dual 1.8mHz PowerMac. It is the base model that has 4 RAM slots and PCI slots rather than PCI-X. I was able to install the USB 2.0 PCI adapter I bought a couple of months ago but neither my Adaptec 2906 PCI card nor my Xircom USB (1.1) PCI card will fit. The slots in the card are in the wrong place to fit in the slots in the G5. When I compared the USB 2.0 PCI card that fiby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
QuotemiK.When buying, there's nothing better than a seller who doesn't realize what they have. It harkens back to garage sale finds... nice! peace- miK. Actually, except for the iSight camera which I didn't know about either, he was aware of the value of the G5. He just hadn't had any luck with local buyers and he was adamant about not shipping it. He was genuinely glad to sell it to soby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I've been chugging along on a B&W 600 mHz G4 (upgraded processor) for a while but I really started feeling the need to upgrade when I started shooting RAW with my Digital Rebel XTi. (I'm doing an occasional reception for money.) The large files just really slowed down my editing and I found my software limitations too great. (Anything other than Photoshop Elements 3.0 just bogged down too mucby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
My last couple of orders with Amazon had the same thing. It showed as shipped but wasn't picked up for several days. In both cases, the orders showed up before the shipping info was updated but it really did take about three days before USPS picked up the packages. I'm not sure what the delay is. I used to get all my Amazon orders shipped within a couple of days. Now, the free shipping seems to tby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
QuoteMacMagusI'd save it from iMovie at high quality and then recompress to DivX using ffmpeg. Experiment with ffmpeg's output settings to get the results that you feel make the best compromise between size and quality. I might start by scaling it 50% down from its original dimensions, dropping the framerate to 15fps and dropping the bitrate to 800kbps. Using that as a reference, you mighby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I have a short promotional video that I created in iMovie 4. It runs approximately 6 1/2 minutes long. Someone wants to post my video on their website and I am looking for advice as to the best format to convert it to for use on the web. When I look at the "Share" options in iMovie, the smallest file size is estimated at about 10 mb if I set it for e-mail. That's still bigger than Iby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Tennessee played badly (and didn't help the SEC's image) but they actually had the more talented team. That just makes the loss even more frustrating for Vol fans. Penn State played steady and disciplined and took advantage of Tennessee's mistakes. I would still say the Big Ten was overrated. Ohio State gets killed by Florida and Michigan gets killed by USC. Big Ten fans claimed they were theby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I gave up on the same version of Safari. I'm using OS 10.3.9 and found Safari to be really slow to load pages. It speeds up if I delete the preferences file but then slows down after a couple of uses. Never had that problem with Firefox so I've stuck with it. I assume the Safari version used with Tiger is better but I haven't used it.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I work part time for a friend whose office has networked PC's. He wants to put a removable SATA hard drive tray in the server so that he can swap the drives out. (They're for back up.) I know very little about SATA drive compatibility. The hard drives he has are SATA II and he is looking at an SATA I drive bay with removable tray. I know the data transfer speed will be no great than SATA I butby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I got a big surprise yesterday. H&R Block sent me a a free version of Taxcut basic for Mac. I guess this is their way of trying to get back their Mac customers. I'm not sure I'll use it, though, because I thought Turbo Tax for Mac worked a lot better. Who's sticking with Turbo Tax and who's going to try Taxcut again? Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Unfortunately, the HIPAA act only refers to group insurance. Since you are on an individual plan, the provisions of HIPAA don't come into play. It's unfortunate but the safeguards that HIPAA provides don't protect the self-employed. It's a big concern for me as I am self-employed and my wife cannot change insurors. If her individual plan closes down, she'll be uninsurable.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I have a iBook G3 with a recently purchased battery. The battery is one of the ones listed in the recall. I filled out the online application for a replacement and it accepted the serial number from my iBook, as well as the battery. I should get a new battery in "4 to 6 weeks."by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I'm just guessing here but could it be a driver issue? Also, I have an HL-1850 that sometimes needs to be turned off so that it clears it's memory in order to print right.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
Great deal. Thanks!by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I came home today and ran into a problem on my B&W (upgraded to 600 MHz G4.) I tried to open Mail.app and it just started the spinning beach ball. Finally, I forced a restart (command, option, escape) and, when it restarted, the system folder couldn't be found. I ran DiskWarrior to see if that might fix it and it couldn't find my main hard drive. When Disk Utility couldn't find it either,by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I've had one since they first came out. (Paid $40 through Amazon.com.) It has worked great the whole time. My recently added G3 iBook with Airport card connects to it anywhere in my house and even in my garage (1 1/2 floors down.) Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
That's promising. Of course, being an older iBook, it's been exposed to smoke for a while. Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
I just purchased a used iBook G3 (800 MHz) on eBay. Forgot to check if it had been used in a smoking environment. It was. Anyone have any suggestions on how to clear the smell from it? Is it even possible? Thanks, Michaelby magicmikey - Tips and Deals
You wouldn't happen to be using AOL would you? I find that AOL users have a lot of problems with attachments. It has to do with the settings in the translators.by magicmikey - Tips and Deals
