Blows my mind that Apple chose to remove the "Start up or wake" System Setting in Ventura. They just took it out because... they ran out of code? They forgot? They thought no one uses it? For years, I had my Mac automatically start at 7am or whatever time shortly before I'd get to work. Loved that feature. Now, it requires a trip to the terminal each time you want to set or adjuby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Big fan of keeping Mail slim and trim to prevent it from bogging down. Here's my process: 1. Create a Smart Folder, All Attachments: Contains Attachments: Message is not in Mailbox: All Inboxes. Date received: is not in the last: 180 days. This pulls up any email (that isn't in my Inbox) that is at least 6 months old and has an attachment. I sort by size, and then as Tiangou suggested, sby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Loved the first one. Saw Avatar2 last week, and was quite surprised how boring the storyline was. It's basically a very, very cliched war movie in amazing CGI. I'm rarely pulled out a movie as often as I was during this one, often thinking that Cameron really lost the plot over the zillions of hours they spent working on the special effects.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
I purchased it. As others noted, some weird hoops and confusion, but it eventually showed up on "my" MS dashboard, and I'm now running updated Office.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Yeah, I went for the full reinstall (with a updated paid Office) and that fixed it.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Running Ventura. I remembered that someone had posted a link to a lifetime Office 2021 and decided to upgrade. The price has actually dropped to $29 ($32 with tax). Took a few head scratches but Office 2021 is now installed. Link for anyone still interested:by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Finally after putting it off for decades, I need to learn a lot more about Excel. I'm on standalone 16.49. I think over time, I may have "customized" (read: mucked up) the Ribbon and tabs, because when I go to look for answers online, they refer to things that I can't find or see. Is there a way to return Excel to its original state? Also, now that I'm digging in deep, shoulby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
QuoteFritz I guess this is not the same as a Private window in FFx or the like? Or auto cookie delete in FFx? Fritz, I'd never really checked out FireFox. Is the feature you're referring to the one shown here in this screenshot? I like that it looks like you can have all cookies immediately delete except for say your bank account or whatever else you want to not have to re-enter settings eachby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Interesting. Sounds like it's still pretty beta then, if major carriers are blocking it. Quotesekker Comes on automatically - and gets shut off by AT&T and others. This visibility into how my internet traffic is being monitored and stored is interesting and good for consumers. When Apple offers a true integrated VPN that cannot be overruled, I'll be all-in.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
I've never looked into it until today, as it's part of the paid version of iCloud (I've stuck with the free 5Gb all these years). But a business partner is overly sensitive about using any website that uses cookies, and I'm looking for a solution (probably Chrome with one of its cookie-deleting extensions). But it got me wondering about Private Relay. Anyone using it?by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Quotewurm I'm very tempted. Trying to figure out if it will fit as the vanity might be in the way. Also, is the gap between bowl and seat problematic? Seems like it would be uneven and wobbly with the bidet in place. I just measured mine, wurm, and it sticks out 4 inches on the left side (as you're looking down on the toilet). The gap can be problematic, depending on the seat design. But nby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
I'm like a broken record on this, but I'll say it again: once you install a bidet (and yes, I use LUXE ones), you'll forever use them and it'll be the first thing you re-install if you ever move. Bought my first one in '98, and never looked back (that sounds like an unintentional joke). The alternative will feel like caveman days.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
This TV uses Edge-Lit LED tech. Is that the same as OLED?by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
If you use the desktop version of Messages a lot, you'll like the new ability to View only Unknown Senders (spam, 2FA texts, etc) and then Command-A highlight all and delete them. Keeps things a lot tidier.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
QuoteTiangou If so then you can just use the Keyboard preferences... Hey, that worked. I've remapped dozens of app menubar shortcuts, but Ventura's new "Email Link To This Page" isn't actually in the menubar, but buried in a drop-down window that appears when you select Filehare... But App Shortcuts still picked it up. Yay! Thanks for the suggestion.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
With the 13.0.1 upgrade, Safari seems to have removed the menubar options to email this link or this page, which both could be given a keyboard shortcut. I would constantly use Command-Shift-I to quickly email a link. ( I never used the Command-I to email the entire page with images, etc). Has anyone figured out a way to do that in Ventura without the menubar options now? The only way to do iby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
I certainly don't get it. But I didn't get Spaces either. I'm too wired to the Command-Spacebar to open apps, the Command-H to hide apps that I'm not using right now, and Command-Tab to switch between open apps. I also still like seeing all 4 sides of any open window, and never use the full screen option on any window (except movies). And just saying all this makes me feel old fashion.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Those ingredients are so damn toxic. Amazed they're still on the market.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
QuoteTiangou If they ask for artwork with outlines, they circumvent the licensing/copyright issue. This is amazing. Did not know this.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
I'm constantly culling images and files, duplicates, just don't like the clutter. But for the rest that I want saved, I store on physical backup drives, and I use the $50/year Backblaze as online safety, as it'll backup any number of drives I tell it to.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Wow, this thread has been an education. Because I never had a need to work with printers that requested outline fonts, I never learned quite what that was or why it was needed. Blankity Blank's explanation finally made sense. I still don't grasp why a printer needs fonts to print something with letters, since it seems that letters are just one more vector design element in a photo/print. Butby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
I've always used Pages (v12.2, running on M1 Ventura) for all my designs for 10+ years, including posters, cardboard box design, and now a mylar pouch design. I add images, text, designed to the dieline template, then Export to PDF at BEST quality. But this manufacturer is asking the fonts to be "outline all text." Is there a way to do this? Why does he need this? And at last resortby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Upgraded to MacOS Ventura 13.0 last week, and the Notifications Alerts/Banners no long appear on my monitor unless I first click on the Clock/Notifications icon in the menubar. In the new Systems Settings: Notifications, I have all 3 of those top Show Previews (Always) checked on (Allow when display is sleeping, when screen is locked, when mirroring/sharing display). And each of the Applicatiby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
With Ventura, there are a lot more apps, websites, etc, that show up in the list of System Settings: Notifications. Yes, one can turn them off, but has anyone figured a way to delete them completely from the list?by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Three things I'm finding useful in Ventura: 1. Finally able to select multiple conversations in Messages to then right-click Delete them all. 2. Quick Look now works in Spotlight search results. Select any result, hit spacebar, and Quick Look shows that item. Even better, the up/down arrow continues showing each found result visually. 3. Photos. Select an image, hover over some human,by tuqqer - Tips and Deals
Quotegraylocks my favorite YouTube Apple explainer Gary at MacMost points out some new features. ... Gary is one of the best and clearest teachers of Mac stuff around. He needs to be more well-known.by tuqqer - Tips and Deals

Quotedavemchine I’ve been using the feature where an email can be moved into the reminder list. It works but it is very clunky. I'm baffled that they didn't get it right. There've been 3rd-party apps that have done this for many years. All it needs to do is: 1. Take any email in the Inbox folder and hold it in a holding tank folder for xx period of time, at which time it places it back inby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
The biggest feature I was looking forward to with Ventura was Mail's new Remind Me, which is something I've wanted for over a decade. The need was was twofold: 1. Send an email with some question or task in it, and then to be able to mark that email to Remind Me in xx days to see if the receiver had followed up. 2. Receive an email in the Inbox and not able to/want to deal with it at theby tuqqer - Tips and Deals
