Good thread. But I'm unclear: it appears, from the article that johnc pointed out, that the latest Tiger Font Book (v2) does in fact leave all the fonts where they are, and makes copies and places them in its iTunes-like folder. In the article, he states:
The new Font Book has some @#$%& going on. It will open fonts from anywhere on your drive and KEEP THEM THERE. Aiiiight. Now we're talking.

Very true, and that may be the only solution. But as my coauthor said, "man, this is highway robbery." I agree. Basic upgradeablity should be standard on the next gen.

Based on recent personal experience, I can pretty much guarantee that this is not going to work well. A number of CS2 features either just don't work (in ways that screw up your design) or can't be edited in .inx docs.
Glad to get verification. We've been trying the export command for the last 3 hours, and it's been nothing but grief. She simply can't open anything I send her. She gets either

When adding fonts via Font Book, does it duplicate the fonts you point to, similar to iTunes and iPhoto? Or does it simply point to the ones you're wanting opened, and therefore you shouldn't move those fonts.

My co-author owns CS1, and I've written a doc in CS2 (InDesign v4.0.2).
Is it possible for me to save the InDesign doc in a way where her CS1 will read it? I've been searching their help files and can't find the answer.

Add Shift-Command-D to the Finder's Go menu, which would bring up Documents folder. I've had this since the beginning, via QuicKeys, but it seems an oversight to me to include Computer, Applications, even Utilities, but not the Documents folder.

Your Pismo will run fine with Tiger. Mine has been with 320MB RAM and 4O Gig hard drive. The rest of the specs are stock.
I find this just amazing. I haven't a clue about coding, but I think it speaks volumes to those who wrote Tiger. I had a similar 'wow' moment when a friend showed me the speed of Tiger on his G3 tower.

The only downside to this method (Archive & Install) that I can see is that the Previous System folder is very large. Its size is dependent on the existing Panther system currently occupying the drive. You will need something less than double the size of your current system in order to do this.
No argument about the value of A&I, and it generally works. However, if there is any corrup

Tugger, were you able to apply what you learned?
I was. I earned my money back, but it was a short run for me. I played the GoogleAd game for 3 months. I finally figured out that I wasn't cut out for that kind of marketing. I think you have to have the kind of brain and personality that gets excited by spreadsheets, and has the stamina for analyzing things, and loves doing split tests, etc.

I have no association with the above link, but I did take Perry's workshop last year, to the tune of $1500, to learn how to do GoogleAds. I did a lot of research before choosing his system. I found it very useful, and his style straightforward.
If you're wanting to get into GoogleAds, and were thinking of getting the new MacBook Pro, this could be a good deal. If you're not, ignore the pos

For those using Spell Catcher, you may want to check out the new rev he's come out with. Now binary, but also added a new Interactive Preference:
A preference has been added to the Interactive pane, Typing tab: Ignore typing when the application is automatically completing. This is useful when you don’t want Spell Catcher “interfering” when, for example, Mail is automatically completing

I have two HDs in my G5 tower. At 4am, the Mac automatically turns on. At 4:10am, SuperDuper dupes the two drives. Once a month, an Entourage Office notification pops up and tells me to back up to an external FireWire drive, which I pull out of a burn-proof safe.
Four times a year, another Entourage notification tells me to burn the last 3 months of Docs onto CDs and mail it to my brother in T

Anyone using it and loving it? Does it slow Safari down? I do like fast browsing.

For years, I heard about a program called http://c-command.com/]SpamSieve, a popular bayesian filter that worked brilliantly with Mail, Entourge, Eudora, etc. I never really needed it until about 6 months ago, when the spam @#$%& finally figured out how to get past Entourage 2004's built-in filter. It was getting bad.
I finally downloaded a copy of SpamSieve and tried it out. Its configuratio
