This mouse pad could be handy for some. Also, a reminder of Apple's hidden special characters pallete: 1. Go to System Preferences and click on International 2. Click on the Input Menu tab 3. Put a check mark at the bottom to "Show input menu in menu bar" (for easier acdces later on) 4. In the section where you choose the keyboard layout, put a check mark next to Character

I've seen the same as well, but it started about a month ago. I've asked at the Entourage forums, and they say that the spammers are using a new method for getting past Entourage's filter. They also have pointed out that Entourage's system is not bayesian, meaning it doesn't get smarter as it goes along. I'm seriously considering getting Spam Sieve which I've heard only good about. This should be so obvious, but I can't find one. My iSight is too far from my G5, so I need a firewire extension (male to female), 6 feet will do. I'm having a helluva time finding one. I see these around on eBay ...but I've had one and they're really cheap and actually short out my G5, causing it to quit instantly. And that female end is just ridiculously big. Anyone know a link

TextEdit rtfd files: can I make them readable for Windows? - 17 years ago

Awhile back, I discovered that by copying and pasting a website page into TextEdit, it copies every single hot link and image as well. Pretty amazing. I'm now trying to send the resulting TextEdit .rtfd file to a Windows person, but it's not readable by him. Is there a way to do this, or is there another program other than TextEdit that will allow this to be cross-platform?

I like setting my Safari prefs so that Command-N gives me an Empty Page. However, there are times I want to duplicate the current page I'm looking at. I've been having network problems in my home office for months, ever since getting a new setup here in our boondocks 2-mile wifi connection. My hardwired Ethernet G5 did okay, but no wireless laptop would stay connected for more than a few minutes. Further, iChat would disconnect every 10 minutes or so. Someone asked what my Xerox Phaser 6250 cost in ink. I've tracked my costs since first getting it (I've printed about 6,000 pages), and the per page cost comes in at around .21¢. We print a lot of flyers, though, so there's often quite a bit of ink used in them. To date, the cheapest place we've found ink cartridges for it is Page Computing.

Quicksilver question - 17 years ago

I installed Quicksilver a week ago. So far it only finds URLs. How do I get it to start finding files in my Mac? I've checked preferences and everything in the Catalog list is checked, including User account, Applications, etc. Even if I spell out DreamWeaver, it still only locates URLs.

Thanks, Pops. That list didn't seem to jive with sorting, but by viewing those characters, and trying a few out, I was able to find a few that would be useful in creating some. Here's one order: ! @ ^ ~ = 1. 2. 3. A B C X Y Z Still couldn't find something that lands below a Z!

anon, I did check out Outliner with the KGTD add on. It looked so promising to me, but I could never figur out how it worked. But a caveat: that's often how I ended up feeling with the various apps I tried out over 2005: I simply couldn't figure out how to get them to help me be more productive. I started to feel like I was stupid, or needed a damn week-long class in how to use each one.

Borrow an ozonator. Place the chair in a fairly small room where you can ozone the heck out of it. Put the ozone on the seat or higher (ozone sinks), and turn it on. Ka, you're right, there's only a v3.x version. We initially weren't able to get DWarrior to work, pointing to the 2 drives on the PowerBook while it was in Target Mode. But by starting up from the DWarrior CD, we were able to do both drives, and now all the partitions are showing up.

I need to buy a new SSL certificate for my site (hosted by dreamhost). I see that places like Network Solutions sells them for $129, or $99 if you pay for 3 years. However, a Google search comes up with ones for $40 year. Anyone have any experience with SSL certificates? If it gives the site the https URL, does it make any difference?
