Of course, we are due to get both AT&T Fiber & Google Fiber in the next year.

Nice - I'll have to give Lubuntu a shot for an old 2GB C2D laptop for my Father-in-Law. While he only needs Chrome, Flash, PDFs, and Word docs, it needs a simple enough UI so he can navigate to his documents without getting lost.
Also, it needs to auto-update for security, but I'm pretty sure Ubuntu does that as well.
Can I test-boot it from a thumb drive before I wipe Windows Vista off th

Slashgear has a great article on iBeacons:
QuoteYou'll need to have the Apple Store app installed in order to actually see any of the beacon-triggered messages, and to have given the app permission to access your physical position, too.
That per-app approach means each third-party application and service will need to specifically request location awareness before they can tell where you a

Good article on how teens communicate. I see this in my daily life as my teens never speak on their "phones" and have basically migrated from Facebook to Snapchat.
I found the crusty comments below the article pretty funny as well:

May I suggest an alternative approach that may be quicker and lead to less frustration?
IF, and only if, you don't plan to edit these files, then I would recommend avoiding iMovie altogether, and buying the following - El Gato Video Capture:
Connect this between your camcorder and iMac. Pop in a 120 min tape, hit record on the iMac software, and 2 hours

I've glad they got control of the botnets, though I wonder if this will help people from still being infected.
My father-in-law got hit by the nasty Cryptolocker trojan on his ancient Windows Vista laptop, despite being up-to-date with Microsoft Security Essentials.
Apparently he fell victim to a link from a spam email. I've been trying to get him to switch away from his 15 year old, spam f

And yes, agree with dk62 - I find cash back a much better deal than trying to use 50k miles for tickets which invariably involve 6am flights and exclude anything but Tues-Wed travel.

My wife & I have chased CC sign-up bonuses the past 2 years & have easily captured $2000+ yearly doing so. Mostly for travel credits.
As Robert, our main card is the Fidelity Amex @ 2% cash back, but getting $400-$500 sign up bonuses on new cards which require $1000-$3000 spending has been a boon to us. We always cancel fee cards at the annual renewal time.
Our credit score has bar

I'm confused - Are you planning to run Facetime on your Macbook while it is tethered to your iPhone's ATT cellular data?
Sure, I suppose this could work provided you have decent cellular signal. Can you not just use Facetime directly on the iPhone? This would be much simpler.
Another option: Use the Ustream app on the iPhone.
I had great results using an iPhone with unlimited VZ LTE dat

FT, WSJ confirm Apple in talks to buy Beats for $3.2 B - Apple's largest acquisition ever.
I can understand the Beats subscription service perhaps to augment iTunes Radio, but why would they want the headphone biz?
Will HTC still market their phones with Beats?

sell the stocks with the highest cost basis first (assuming they are held for over a year), since this would mean the lowest tax owed for a given sale of shares?
Yep, paying less tax on investments is the ticket.
Now, go max out that 401k & IRA/rIRA and avoid Cap Gains altogether.

Go with 2 extremes.
If you have the option, run a network cable* between the two and let the 2nd one act as a access point, instead of using the "extend an existing network" option which repeats the wireless signal.
* 3 options:
- Ethernet cable
- 2 Powerline bridges
- 2 MoCa bridges (using Coax)

Can any of these LED bulbs be used in an enclosed outdoor light fixture? ... I read that LEDs do not fare well in an enclosed light fixture.
Yes, I bought this Switch Infinia 60W equivalent a few weeks ago for $14.
It is the only LED bulb I've seen that is rated for enclosed fixtures and indoor/outdoor use. Instead of using a large aluminum heatsink, it is liquid filled and runs

We enjoyed dining at several restaurants last April. We were able to wait in line for about 30 min and get seated at the Be Our Guest restaurant. While the food itself was nothing special, the decor is truly amazing and really evokes scenes from the Beauty & Beast Movie.
Also in Animal Kingdom, we really enjoyed the Anandapur Yak & Yeti restaurant with advanced reservations. Pretty g

About the one-time Lifetime subscription purchase…
Isn't that tied to a specific device, and when it fails, the subscription is dead?
Yes, lifetime is tied to the device. But in 12+ years, I've owned a few dozen different TiVo's and NEVER had one fail in a manner I couldn't repair myself.
Same here. Each of 5 Tivo's I've owned / managed (parents,in-laws) has
