Unknown Networking Question WINS box in Airport - 17 years ago

My son is home from college and is using his MacBook on our home network. In my Shared list (Leopard OS- both of us) his Macbook shows up and another icon with the name MAC0017F2DD3CDF. It made no sense and I couldn't log in using his password. I did some searching on his MacBook I went to the Network System Prefs pane. Thanks for the heads-up. It was in my Gold Box, but I never got the alert from Amazon. For those into space, I also found the HBO series From the Earth to the Moon Signature Edition for $19.99. Apollo program hosted by Tom Hanks. I've been looking at that one for some time also. Mine are on the way now.

One thought- was hers plugged into the power supply and yours running on battery? If I unplug mine, there is a noticeable difference in display.

While in iMovie, position the playhead where you want to make the still frame, you can manually move the marker with your mouse or use the left or right arrow keys for more precision. When you find the frame you want, simply go to the Edit menu and go to Create Still Frame (last item on the menu in my iMovie 6. Thanks, glad my suggestion seemed to work. Here is another mystery. I booted my MacBook from an external HD in a OWC case via USB and then again via FW and it is also formatted as APM! But for some reason the updater doesn't play nicely with a drive formatted APM.

My iMac says GUID Partition scheme in Disk Util, but my MacBook does say Apple Partition Map. I dunno'. that's what it says.

Mine is eligible for the update according to that article and it doesn't accept it. I am getting the error message. I still don't see anyone addressing the dive partition scheme possibility. I'll try my questioned fix later this afternoon when I get time to do the backup and restore.

Some of us have had a problem with installing the EFI Firmware updater getting an error message when installing on MacBooks, MBP and iMacs. There is a long thread on Apple. I did some checking. It appears to be a disk format problem. For those who installed a new disk or reformatted the old. Notice that we get the error message when the utility wants to restart. Go to disk util. Click on the drive name, then go to the partitions tab. If you then click on options you will see something interesting. three options: - GUID partition table- use the disk to start up

Got the same message when trying to update my C2D MacBook. Apple discussion has reports of some having success many other getting the no-go message. No answers and no common thread they can find yet.

Same problem with Handbreak- H.264 movies won't load onto my iPod. I even played with the settings and used Handbreak's default for iPod. I get the same message every time.

Further clarification- I guess my question does not involve Handbreak as much as it does the H.264 codec. If I use Hanbreak to convert the same video into mpg4 format, it works fine. Does the 5G iPod play H.264 or only the 5G 5.5 model? What am I missing? Thanks

OK- I searched the forum but came up empty on my situation. I'm having issues importing h.264 mp4's into my iPod Video- G5 (not G 5.5), 60gig. I drop it into iTunes and all is well, when I go to sync my iPod I get a message that says it can't be copied because it can't be played on this iPod. I'm using Instant Handbreak and the iPod 5G H.264 setting. So why can't it play in this iPod? I though

Anthing connected to the iMac? I had a card reader attached to my USB port through a hub. Everytime I put it to sleep it would instantly awake. Seems the card reader was constantly checking the port for activity. As soon as I disconnected it, everything was fine. Just a thought.

My son's MacBook C2D was having some display issues with intermittent white line going horizontally across the screen and the LCD blinking off and on under certain apps such as mail, FireFox and Safari.
