I feel like I’d be grabbing for the phantom brakes the whole time.by BernDog - Tips and Deals
In for 10. Thanks! New (to us) house has numerous worn out outlets. That means they’re also the most used/accessible. Perfect places for a little extra utility.by BernDog - Tips and Deals
QuoteGGD This is what I though it might be in the original thread. If it were me I'd track it down myself. First figure out every outlet, switch and fixture that are on those two circuits, and then start guessing what might have logically been on each separate circuit and then start opening junction boxes looking at how many wires are in each wire-nut. Then see if you can separate these siaby BernDog - Tips and Deals
The whole reason I’m digging in on this issue right now is because I’m trying to add a new ceiling fixture. I’ve been trying to find somewhere to tie in for power to the new fixture. That’s how I ended up discovering the new twist on this issue. One place I wanted to use for power ended up being on this double circuit. I’m not going to try to get all this worked out before Christmas, anby BernDog - Tips and Deals
QuoteAcer Sound like someone linked two circuits in some fixture that happened to have both circuits inside, like a multi-switch wall switch, or an outlet with different circuits top and bottom. Assuming it’s not wired wrong inside the circuit breaker box, then it is in one of those other two places. If so, An electrician would just have to go around and look at each box until he found it. Quotebtfc I’d be tempted to leave one of them off. Probably not a bad idea. Thanksby BernDog - Tips and Deals
Quotemattkime I’d ignore it until you have more reason to call an electrician If I have stuff cobbled together up in the ceiling combining two circuts (15A each), doesn’t that effectively make a 30A breaker that might not blow when it should (both 15A breakers would have to go) I haven’t dug deep enough to know for sure, but there are probably outlets on the same circuit. Not sure where tby BernDog - Tips and Deals
Follow up to this thread from a couple months ago about not being able to find a breaker to cut power to some ceiling lights. Horrible time to dig in on this right now (just issued a blizzard warning about an hour ago) but it’s the start of my winter break, and now is when I have time. In exploring unlabeled breakers, I’ve found a pair that control this same circuit (not adjacent)by BernDog - Tips and Deals
Quotegadje Amazon shows 169.00 this morning. Walmart must have just dropped it, and Amazon matched. No matter. Walmart is still quoting delivery to me on 12/22 if I bought it this morning. Amazon says 12/29. At least poor Amazon got to sell me a mini dp to hdmi cable for $10. That should keep them afloat for now.by BernDog - Tips and Deals
Going to pull the trigger on a similar Asus, VA27DQSB. Near as I can tell the only differences between the first Asus I linked and this one is that this one does not have USB-C power output (which my son doesn’t currently need), but it does have a much better, more adjustable stand. It’s a few bucks more on Amazon, but I found it for $169 at Walmart. Thanks for helping steer my seaby BernDog - Tips and Deals
This is the 27” version of wirecutter’s budget pick (they picked 24”). Thoughts?by BernDog - Tips and Deals
Quotegadje Get him a GAMING monitor. Otherwise, when he eventually plays other games, he will complain about low frame rate and lack of Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync. I got this one for my son. I just did a VERY quick search to see what the price would be for something comparable in a 24”, and I still get a lot of hits for 27”. Is that kind of a standard size right now? If so, that mby BernDog - Tips and Deals
Quoteanonymouse1 What year MBA 11"? Are you open to used? Really nothing special. 2015. Probably not used unless it was some sort of an open box deal. We’re not looking for anything special, considering the budget. He’d be happy with anything bigger than 11”. I guess I’m just wondering where the sweet spot is right now regarding size and resolution, and that hits the price pby BernDog - Tips and Deals
Trying to figure out Christmas gifts for our kids. 12yo daughter is getting a giant bean bag chair. 15yo daughter is getting a 1st gen Apple Watch SE. 15yo son is impossible to shop for. Threw some ideas at him that he didn’t like. Came back a day later and he said a monitor might be ok after all. He has a MacBook Air 11”. His “gaming” consists of Minecraft and other basic, low-res stuffby BernDog - Tips and Deals

If you’re going to spend any money on this iMac, get an external SSD to run the machine from. If that doesn’t fix any issues (it probably will) you still have a nice external SSD. Otherwise, it may be time to replace the 10yo computer so she can use the current OS with the most recent security features/updates.by BernDog - Tips and Deals
QuoteDP How about consulting your pre-sale house inspection report? There should be a complete electrical inspection that would include any sub panel and where it's located. Home inspection? In this market? Ha! Seriously, that would have been nice, but we needed to make a move, and we needed to get it done before rates went up too much. Got in at 4.25%. It would have been months longer (if aby BernDog - Tips and Deals
I’ve never heard of a breaker that fails in the “on” position, but if that’s possible, it might explain it. I don’t know if I have a breaker that doesn’t turn anything off or not. So far I’ve been at the stage of finding the breaker that controls what I want to work on, rather than finding what each breaker does. Might just have to go through and get all the labeling done. Quotegadje QuoteGrateful11 Like us you probably have a sub panel, you just haven't found it yet. Mu understanding is that a sub panel is fed from the main panel. So I would imagine that one or two of the breakers feed the sub panel, so eventually those light should go off. That’s what I thought too. Looks like I’ll be calling an electrician. The panel is fairly new and “convenientlyby BernDog - Tips and Deals
So, I have four recessed can lights in my living room ceiling in the house we just bought over the summer. I’d like to put them on a dimmer. They are apparently not controlled by any breaker in the main panel. I’ve switched off every. single. one. and the lights stay on. If I flip the main panel breaker, they go off. What is going on here? Were they wired directly without going through a breaby BernDog - Tips and Deals
This isn’t something I follow on the regular, but with the current rate of inflation and seeing prices on everything continue to rise, as well as supply constraints in the automotive industry, I have to think that pricing has gone up on all new vehicles, not just this one example or even the entire field of EVs specifically. What’s the current reality here?by BernDog - Tips and Deals

QuoteADent I want the always on display of the S7. I feel like she’d actually prefer to turn that off. Or, is that one of those things you don’t think you want until you have it?by BernDog - Tips and Deals
My wife needs a new Apple Watch. Her Series 2 is no longer holding a charge through the day. She does not want to pay a premium for the latest/greatest. Looking for the best value. Is the Series 7 more than $50 better than the new SE? I feel like the answer is yes, but I don’t follow the watches as closely as some other Apple products. She’d be plenty happy with the SE, but if the 7 was a betby BernDog - Tips and Deals

QuoteMarkintosh We have this Alpine unit in our Tacoma and in our son's Tacoma as well. We like it. That’s exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for, and probably one I already looked at. Thanks for the quick review! I don’t see anything on that one about a wired connection, so good to go there. I’m sure I saw other ones that had that requirement for iPhone. QuoteRobert M BernDog, What is your goal? Play music? Use bluetooth for calls? Both? What will do the job for you is 100% dependent on the answers to those questions. As for why a head unit might require a hardwire connection to your phone, it depends on the unit and its features. Now, if you want to make sure car bluetooth friendly, there are many ways to go about it. One is a simple bluetby BernDog - Tips and Deals
