MacBook 1.83 Core Duo with 1.25 GB ram does a rip to MP4 from DVD to desktop in about 45 minutes for average movie with MediaFork. Full disk rip with MacTheRipper r14d in roughly same time.

Alot of work for a small gain in storage. Heat loss through any opening a major concern since you are in a colder climate. Have you thought about an out building or better yet, hang shelving from garage ceiling. You can hang shelves over hood area. If garage ceiling is high enough, you can hang them 7' up and still walk or drive underneath. I wouldn't recommend stairs because of the heat loss. If

Plywood would hold side to side but not in and out. Angle iron is probably your best bet. Check for placement on other door as it goes up. That way it won't bind when door goes up and down. They can't be installed to close together. Also, check for placement if it is a hollow core door. The only solid frame is around the outside of panel. Or, what mjgkramer said.

Winter should have less humidity. Thus, the door will shrink and won't let latch engage strike plate. If is a case of too much humidity, the doors will swell and stick or not even fit into openings. A more permanent fix would be to mantain a more even humidity level in the house. Hard to do?
