I am so sorry for your loss Donna. My sympathies to you and your family and friends. I miss Dave's voice here! You never really know a person just from online communications, but it was clear to me that he was a true gentleman, and thought deeply about things that matter. May he rest in peace. Quotefreeradical I hate to break the news, but when a company "steps in to the fray", it's because they think it's good for business, not because they believe in some cause. That's not the case with Kraft. Personally I think it's a really good sign if Kraft thinks their public support for gay marriage is "good for business." Kraft has actively supported gay rights forby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Biggest scandal in the service's history? (CBS News) Ronald Kessler, best-selling author of "In the President's Service" and a former reporter for The Washington Post, called the dismissal of 12 Secret Service members in Columbia prior to President Obama's arrival there "the biggest scandal in Secret Service history." According to CBS News senior White House correspondeby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteChakravartin QuoteLemon Drop This is a no nonsense prosecutor with a tough reputation, she's not going to court with weak evidence. Especially in a case receiving this much publicity and scrutiny. She's using an "information" instead of a "indictment." She has no credible evidence for conviction. This is no more than a show for the public. An information filingby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteUncle Wig And more importantly, because we'll always have unstable, angry people, how the hell did he get an automatic weapon capable of spraying bullets all over the place? Why does ANYONE need one of those? He didn't use an automatic weapon. Accuracy, please. QuoteSpock Enhanced version of the original video may show injury to the back of Zimmerman's head. QuoteA newly enhanced version of police video taken on the night of the Trayvon Martin shooting more clearly shows a possible gash or injury on the back of shooter George Zimmerman's head. ABC News debuted the new video today. In it, an apparent wound of some type can be seen on Zimmerman's heby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I was talking about the desert-style fatigues, how exactly do those help the police in their crime-fighting missions in US cities? I appreciate everyone letting me know that criminals have guns though, because I didn't realize that. Thanks.by Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
And oh yeah - reverse that god-awful Citizens United case!! Allow each corporation or PAC or person or union or whatever to give $100 to the candidate or party, in quarters, deposited in the bank by the candidate herself.by Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteSam3 They really are incompetent at getting their message out. If they were smart, the Democrats would start going after the emotions and not the logic. Logic might be correct, but that doesn't get people up in arms. Emotions get people up in arms and that is what the Right is doing quite well. This is why, I think, the Democrats lost the blue collar everyman vote. President Bush playedby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Well said Stevie. I think there ARE things we could do about this. Here is this guy upset over many stressful and depressing life issues. Was mental health care available to him? When this Christian school kicked him out what counseling was available? Was it free or did they refer him to private counseling, which for a person in financial crisis isn't affordable. And more importantby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotethe_poochies As you could expect, the politician hated that part of his work week, but he realized that he wasn't gonna get reelected on pixie dust and unicorns. Yep, that's the thing that keeps people who would be very effective, highly ethical leaders from running, they don't have the door-to-door salesman mentality you need in order to grovel for money. There are people who are excby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

OT, but do you ever see photos of US police and think it looks like something out of Afghanistan? Why do they wear military-style desert fatigues in the middle of a US city? This is Oakland earlier today.by Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

I was little surprised to hear the President's strong comments today during his press conference. You wouldn't expect to hear a President to give that type of opinion about a pending case, on the other hand you also don't expect to hear justices spout Tea Party talking points as they did during opening arguments. So he must figure what the heck.by Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

The good news is that, like last year's Ryan plan, this budget has no chance of passing the Senate. Democrats running for the Senate need only point to this budget as the reason the Senate cannot turn over to the GOP this fall.by Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I don't think they will strike down the entire thing. I think there's a better than even chance that they'll leave the law alone, and apply some "limiting principle" to the mandate to show that the health insurance market is so unique and so important (17% of GDP) in American commerce that it allows for a full participation requirement and for regulation by Congress under the commerceby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotebillb If the Federal Government makes executions for everyone mandatory will the strip searches have precedence ? Ok if you want to use that as an example of government power: bill the federal government has a death penalty, as do many states. I noticed that Jon Hamm was the director of last night's episode. I thought the pace was painfully slow, both hubbie and I thought it was one of the more boring episodes of this show, and badly written. Loved the first 4 seasons but if the next episode isn't better I probably won't watch it again.by Grace62 - Tips and Deals

This Supreme Court - aaargh! Today's ruling, conservatives plus Kennedy - strip searches for even minor offenses like not paying traffic fines are OK. Roberts says exceptions to the ruling may still be made “to ensure that we ‘not embarrass the future.’ ”by Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
David Paul Kuhn of RCP suggests that this argument has not been framed correctly. Yes Romney does badly among women voters but he did badly among them before this contraception thing started. Women who don't trust the GOP on social issues felt that way long before Romney appeared on the scene, or Santorum. The interesting thing that happens at the ballot box is that other issues take prby Grace62 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
No fake rain in last night's episode, just they got the message that that wasn't doing much for the show. The perspective for me that keeps this show interesting is that it's only 14 days into the plot. Still no idea who killed Rosie or why. Seems more sinister than a mob plot to hold onto a real estate deal, murder a teenager over that? That'll be a disappointing plot twist.by Grace62 - Tips and Deals
Our kids loved April 1 and we parents did too. It's a great opportunity to show that harmless pranks are fun, and to understand the difference between that and the other stuff, say of the youtube/facebook mean and stupid variety. (which fortunately was not around when they were younger) I can't stand the stuff that makes children cry or that humiliates adults, that is not the point.by Grace62 - Tips and Deals

QuoteChakravartin There is no "stand your ground" defense on the table. Zimmerman's attorney has indicated that he would not even raise it if Zimmerman was charged because he is presently alleging self-defense.
