It can. It has to go through all of the files in the hierarchy and change ownership on them.by rz - Tips and Deals
This would be so much easier to do with a Unix command line. I would have assumed that when you clicked the lock and gave your admin password, it would have allow you to change the ownership. If you're willing to give it a try, here's what I would try in a command line in the terminal: sudo chown -R joanMBP /Volumes/TEMPTEMP/Users/joanpro It will then prompt for your admin password, andby rz - Tips and Deals
You do not appear to be the owner of that folder. Try this. Click the lock and unlock the folder. Highlight your name in the above window, then click on the gear. You should get a menu that says "make JoanMBP the owner". Select that.by rz - Tips and Deals
Right click on the Pictures folder and do a Get Info. If possible, send a screenshot of that Get Info window.by rz - Tips and Deals
So your User folder is on another drive? Maybe want to check the ownership of that folder. I access folders full of pictures on an external drive all the time. They're just not part of my home folder hierarchy. Try creating a separate folder on that drive (not under your User folder). Move a few pictures there, and see if you can access them.by rz - Tips and Deals
Can't help you there, but I can address the computer glasses thing. If you plan on getting "computer" glasses, make sure you measure the distance between your eyes and the screen BEFORE you go to the eye doctor, and tell them that distance when they are taking readings. I got a pair recently, and they're great... if I'm using a laptop that's only arm's length from me. My desktop moniby rz - Tips and Deals
Definitely get an inspection. As mentioned above, as-is doesn't mean you can't inspect it. But make the sale contingent upon the inspection. We made an offer on a house recently that had obvious issues. We knew about those issues and were budgeting those issues with our offer. But an inspection found more serious problems that would have been incredibly expensive to repair. It ended up coby rz - Tips and Deals
QuotePaul F. Comparing today with what my portfolio was worth one year ago, I"m doing JUST fine... Sure, those red numbers sting a bit, but, grand scheme? I'm still well ahead. Yup. Even with the last week's losses, I've made more money in my investments in the last year than I did in salary.by rz - Tips and Deals
We paid our mortgage off a few years early, but our circumstances are different. We're actually about to buy a more expensive house. Our payoff amount was smaller than yours, and at a higher interest rate. Paying it off meant that we could buy the new house without having to sell the current one first and not have to worry about having two house payments if we can't sell the current one rightby rz - Tips and Deals
It's so they can raise your rates later. That's how they recover the cost of these "free" items they send you.by rz - Tips and Deals
It's great here this time of year. Daytime temps in the 70s (although we've had a few in the 80s and a few where it only reached the mid 60s). Trees and flowers are starting to bloom. Humidity is low. I can do yard work all day and barely break a sweat. Biggest problem though is that February is what I like to call "Fall" in Florida. It's when the oak and camphor trees drop theirby rz - Tips and Deals
Quotedeckeda QuotePeterB ... Turns out I have a spare (used) microwave, ... TECHNOLOGY CRISIS AVERTED! But start trolling Goodwill just the same. I'm all for buying used stuff at Goodwill, but if it were me, there's no way I'd buy a used microwave oven from Goodwill. Lord knows why they got rid of it in the first place. Thanks, I went ahead and did that. Seems ok now. It didn't ask to setup iCloud this time.by rz - Tips and Deals
Upgrading wife's 2010 iMac from Mavericks to High Sierra. Everything seemed ok... logged in, started the setup. It asked for her iCloud login/password, and I typed them in. It's been stuck at the iCloud "Setting up Account" screen for an hour now. Can't go back, can't seem to escape it. Do I hard reboot it? Any other ideas?by rz - Tips and Deals
Then there's the opposite. I posted something the other day under the "free" section. It was an above-ground pool (used, but in decent condition), along with upgraded sand filter ($200 new), cover, ladder, leaf vacuum (~$50 new). All free. Just asked that whoever wanted it would help me take it apart. I had over 25 people respond within the first two hours. I insisted they respondby rz - Tips and Deals

We're buying a new house soon, and running cable is going to be nearly impossible. No attic, no basement. Probably going to have to run it outside on the roof.by rz - Tips and Deals
Even just "Made in the USA" is useless. As mikebw says, it just means it was assembled here. And a lot of people's "American" cars are assembled in Mexico, while their "Japanese" cars are assembled in Alabama. I'd venture to guess that a lot of stuff touted as "Made in the USA" is made up of materials imported from other countries. That's just the natby rz - Tips and Deals
Says the Governor. He walked back his comments blaming the failure of "green energy"by rz - Tips and Deals
Reminds me of when our AC died a couple of years after we bought our current house. We just called the number on the sticker that was on the unit. They came out and said, "Oh, great news Mr. (prior owner). You purchased the warranty, so you don't have to pay anything for this $800 part, or the labor to install it!". I said, "Uh, oh yeah! I forgot about that!".by rz - Tips and Deals
Quotespacescape All "green energy" failed (From what he is saying). All of it failed, not just "green energy", which only accounts for about 20% of the energy produced in Texas. And the reason the wind turbines failed was because Texas, which has its own power grid and doesn't have to follow federal mandates, didn't bother to weatherize them like they do in every other staby rz - Tips and Deals
