Can't get there until we vaccinate 100% of people age 5 and up - so it is going to be awhile since there are no vaccines today for under 16. Even 80% for herd immunity would require 100% 10 and up or 90% of 5 and up.

I had to upgrade to 10.13 because of 1Password - they don't support 10.12 with any version of their software and some update broke the browser plug in. But due to old software I wanted to keep HFS+. IIRC the new versions of 10.13 installer don't work with some of the instructions - but I had an old 10.13.1 installer around and that worked great and then I applied updates.

Snow Leopard Sever (bought the DVD directly from Apple) in Parallels 9. I have used VMware in the past but when I upgraded Parallels had a better deal.

Don't those take up to 16GB? I usually take the new drive, put it an external case (which can be $15 from Microcenter or wherever) and either clone or install OS and migrate. Then I make sure it boots and then install into machine.

If you are looking for something cheap that lasts a year or two you can grab a used one off eBay. Bit hit and miss for long term - I get a couple of years out of them - but you can get them for $20.

Usually you can get a dealer to do a pre-purchase inspection or you can find a local car shop, particularly something that specializes in that brand. The owner would probably need to drive it over. Mobile mechanics are another option. There is lemonsquad.com - never used (or heard of) them, but it seems like something right up your alley.

I have done both. If you have fast internet recovery mode is ok. Or you can build an external boot disk, boot from that (hold option down while booting) and then run the installer.

Thanx for the deal. FYI is doesn't work on macOS Sierra (10.12). 10.13.6 or higher. Neither does 1Password. May be time to upgrade - if I can skip APFS (I got some apps not compatible). I have other Macs around.

Makes AM sounds much better. FM HD is OK - one of the stations runs its 'studio' recordings, basically w/o commercials. Many others are now simulcasting an AM station.

Good to hear. I watched a couple of episodes on Amazon Prime and picture quality was TERRIBLE - worse than the 3rd sub channel OTA we get (which was bad).

It is terrible. It doesn't take a swipe, then it swipes two things over. If I couldn't use my iPhone as a remote, it would be gone. I can use my old AppleTV remote - I will dig that up. I have on my list to buy a cheapy ($15) universal remote at Walmart that will supposedly work well.

Definitely go with some sort of NVMe if you can - I just put one in my Hackintosh and it is much snappier, even though my machine is 10 years old.

I love my B&W laser printer. CHEAP to run, reliable, etc - mine takes generic toner cartridges fine. The color lasers are a bit clunkier and you need to watch toner costs. Definitely research. Older ones had some gotchas (transfer belt?) I don't do much color printing, so my ancient B&W does the heavy lifting and my cheapy black-Friday-special color laser printer comes on a couple o

Nest had a couple of notable outages causing no heat (though admittedly it has been a couple of years) - no thanx. Of course my mom's mechanical thermostat stuck on and it got hot enough to melt candles once.

I just did a 2012 and you need a T6, T8 and small hex/allen. I have all those, but if you buy a drive from our sponsor (OWC) you can get a kit with those.

Sounds like something is off. I assume you have moved the external to a different port, if possible. You can pull the drive and run the manufacture diagnostics, long run. But probably a flaky internal SSD. You could try a reformat and re-install of OS to fix any disk corruption.

Is the other partition bootable? Mine converted, but I only had the one partition. I was afraid to upgrade the wife to High Sierra, since she also uses 10.6 occasionally and that can not read APFS, and certainly can not boot from APFS. Looks like you don't partition an APFS disk, you create more volumes. Maybe APFS doesn't like partitioned drives?
