Recently some message titles in Mail 12.4 are orange. Not all—many are black. iMac late 2013, OS 10.14.6. Why? Have I changed a setting?

The drive that retains its opening settings is formatted in MacOS Extended (Journaled). The other drive, that reverts to its default opening settings, is formatted in MS-DOS (FAT32). It does not have an Ignore ownership checkbox… Erased the obstinate flash drive, then reformatted it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The "Ignore ownership on the volume" and its checkbox are grayed

Did not say I use Catalilna. Maybe I should have said I don't want to install Catalina; I don't have Cat and don't want it. Will disconnect VPN. Are VPN's more trouble than they're worth?

Using Mail Version 12.4 on iMac with OS 10.14.6. Have spoken to Apple support. Some ground was gained; email could be sent—for a while. Then another error message appears—it says "Cannot send message using the server@xxx.net. The attempt to read data from the server 'mail.xxx.net' failed." I disconnect the VPN

Difficulty with Preview dimensions - 4 months ago

Have been using Apple's Preview on iMac for a while; it has been dependable. It's no Photoshop, but for basic editing it's good. Lately, though, the printed image does not match the size set in Tools, Adjust Size. Probably doing something wrong. Any ideas??

I have Disk Warrior, but the DW folks say it doesn't work on AFPS, and OS 10.14 uses AFPS.

modelamac, when you wrote "boot into your backup clone," do you mean to restart with the clone as the startup disk? If that's what you meant, I can do that. But your idea to "clean up from there" stymies me. What should be "cleaned" ?

OK, Sarcany, I relaunched as you said. But neither of the two options you mentions occurred. The Finder did not stall—that I could notice I think the Finder did relaunch, but I don't see damage. Maybe damage exists but I don't recognize it… What should I look for?

Message on desktop can't be deleted - 4 months ago

After downloading VLC media player a message appeared on the desktop. It says "Duplicating 242 items to desktop," has a progress bar, but does not have a red "close" dot in the top L corner. The bar does not progress and nothing happens. Can't close it, can't trash it This is on an iMac with OS 10.14 What's going on?

The sidebar can be shown or hidden from the View option. But the sidebar contains only Favorites, Locations, and Tags. No Downloads. Tried adding DL's; no success Where are Finder Preferences located? I'll try trashing them

Looked for Downloads folder, which usually appears in Sidebar; it's missing! Went to Finder Preferences, clicked on Sidebar. Downloads is checked. But the entire Sidebar is missing, so none of its entries appear. What's wrong??

Haven't used color for a while, but it prints B/W at least weekly. I updated the driver because it might help—it didn't Didn't see any option for cleaning cycle. Other printers have them, this one should, right? Will check the ink cartridge for seating. Thanks for the tip!

Had driver 2.1; checked with HP, then installed driver 5.1 for use with OS 10.14 Clicking Supply Levels gets an Info Not Available response How do I know whether printer is out of color ink or another problem causes this?

Exposito claims that any Mac that uses T1 or T2 chips could be vulnerable to decryption of sensitive data. Which Mac computers use T1 and/or T2 chips?

It's Windows xp. I'm at ground zero with windows; I recognize the desktop but don't know what to do with it. Not familiar with Windows, but must use it for an auto diagnostic program. Have autoscanned the vehicle; now the scan file is on the Windows computer. I want to transfer that file to a flash drive so it can be put on a Mac and emailed.
