Stephen Dedalus, Joyce's proxy and main character in the book, fights back against bullies, and he does the same against the priest who delivers this sermon, rejecting the fear-based bullying. It's a great novel, and this is a key moment in Stephen's maturation.by zeppo2 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

There was a really interesting article in the NYT on the French doctor behind the hydroxychloroquinine studies. He certainly pushes the limits of scientific methodology, albeit sometimes with good results. Maybe. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/12/magazine/didier-raoult-hydroxychloroquine.htmlby zeppo2 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Sounds exactly like our son and our experience, right down to the Nintendo. Speaking of which, for a birthday gift you might look at Uniqlo's new line of Nintendo themed t-shirts. I ordered several for my son's birthday next month. Go to the store's main site and do a search for Nintendo and they should come up. The suggestion above about an experience (escape room? weekend trip with parents?) alby zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
Was it 2015 that the right wing freaked out over Starbucks' all red coffee cups, calling them a war on Christmas? C'mon, Mevanka--be ur best.by zeppo2 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Capital One sold their old stock trading DRIP service to E-Trade. BTW, I'm having no problems accessing the info on E-Trade, though I'm not sure ultimately that I'll stay with them.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
When my son was away at college and living in Jersey City, it was the rule rather than the exception that packages went missing and never showed up. Reading online reviews of the local P.O. suggested that this was standard practice. I'm not sure if it was larcenous deliverers/local sorters or deadbeats in his apartment complex, but after awhile we gave up sending care packages. Now he's in Brooklby zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
Thanks...it did feel good to get it off my chest. I think my wife was tired of being the sole recipient of my complaintsby zeppo2 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I disagree. If you read the WP and NYT before the election, there was plenty there that should have disqualified Trump. David Farenthold's excellent and dense multi-part (and Pulitzer winning) series on the sham that is the Trump Foundation, the exposés of Trump U, articles of how he shafted suppliers and contractors, the many, many essays on his birtherism, his treatment of women, etc. I thinkby zeppo2 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
There have been a few, including the VW Jetta Diesel (AKA, so sue us, we lied about emissions) or the 69 bug that didn't have working heat in the winter and you could see the road through holes in the floorboard beneath the driver. The all-time lemon, though, had to be both of my mid 70s Mercury Capris. My grandfather convinced me to buy the first, because he loved Mercuries, but I was driving itby zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
In France I usually locate the closest Orange Telecom store to my hotel/apartment, on Google Maps. It's usually about 20 bucks for enough data to last me a week (and I go through a good bit), along with a few phone calls. They install the SIM and do all the set up for me. There are some dual-country plans, but my guess is you'll need separate for Italy (and it'll probably be a few euros cheaper)by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
The best review I saw called it what we'd expect if "Tarkovsky had directed... the Ghost Busters reboot". I thought it was a very good movie, with an amazing score. Very trippy and disturbing movie.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
I got it in December and have seen over a dozen movies without a hitch. I too worried about the company going belly up, but figured buying it through Costco was an added layer of protection. I love that our local Regals also give us Regal points when using it, so I'll have enough points for free popcorn for quite awhile.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
Verizon phones should already be unlocked. My Verizon iPhone 6 is. I always stop at Heathrow at the local SIM dealer and have them drop a SIM in for me, and I'm good to go. Just did this in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
I love my Prius Prime. It gets about 26 miles on a charge, and since my commute is 32 miles a day, I only fill up once every five weeks. If my work ever installs the chargers they've been promising, I'll be damn near gas-less.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
At work IT has installed Sophos on our Macs. It's awful--often it seems to slow the system to a crawl when updating, frequently forcing a restart. Otherwise, it has never found anything suspicious.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
It isn't currently like you describe Buzz. You have to spend 25K to meet the spend retirement, AND still fly 125k miles or fly 125 segments. Both must be satisfied. If you're a Diamond, your butt's been plenty numb, even in first (posted on Gogo in-air wifi, as I'm trying to make it once again to Platinum).by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
Also, Leontes from Act III of The Winter's Tale. My first thought was that somebody learned English by studying Shakespeare: Traitors! Will you not push her out? Give her the bastard. Last year I did a good deal of photography in the secondary tents and stages with a rather large lens and wasn't hassled. There was another guy with tripod (and no ID badge) who went and stood just in front of center stage and shot photos, which was annoying to everyone else, and he wasn't hassled. YMMV.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals

I use the site https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/topic/537834-can-you-negotiate-with-directv/ every year to renegotiate my contract with Directv. I love the quality of the service, and with a bit of haggling, get great deals. I would think as a new customer you should hold out for the type of offers renegotiates are getting in the most recent forum postings, which seems like free Sunday Tickeby zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
I find that most airports now have a cell phone shop that will sell you a SIM and pop it in for you. Although the airports might be a few dollars more than what you find in city centers, you're more likely to find somebody who speaks English at the airport if not fluent in the local language. Plus you have the phone from immediately to call an Uber, call up Google Maps, ring your hotel, etc.by zeppo2 - Tips and Deals

My wife has a 2010 TDI Jetta, and we can't wait to unload the POS. Besides the whole lying thing, the window switch stopped working the first week we had it, and just out of warranty the air conditioning broke (the dealer told us they had a common problem with metal shard in the system?) and they wanted $2400 to try and fix (no promises). Then the radio broke (dealer again told us that it was a cby zeppo2 - Tips and Deals
