No simple answers. The property transfers when the trust grantor sets it up to transfer - whether that was at the time of the trust creation, at time of death or at the end of some period of time. As for property expenses, the trustee is responsible- whether the trustee is the grantor or some other entity, usually a bank or lawyer. But nothing is typical. The software I suggested does not claim to repair APFS disks. It’s file recovery only. And since there is a free limited use version available, what does the op have to lose? Or he can just wait for an APFS-qualified version of DiskWarrior or TechTool or Drive Genius.

I would not recommend this unless you have tried everything else - as you appear to have done. I have not had the occasion to try this software but for what it’s worth, this could work. Enough weasel words for you?

I believe the need for the external case is that the failing ssd has no backup and this case will be used to try to get whatever data remains on the drive transferred to the new ssd.

Restore the Time Machine backup file to your drive and try accessing from there. Not all the TM files, just the one you want to use.
