QuoteSarcany Any hints about forthcoming features on M1 Macs? Will it make a full bootable copy of all APFS volumes from an M1 Mac to a standard USB HD or SSD that can simply be restored back to the original drive? Got a trick to clone a drive with a result that's bootable on *both* a M1 Mac and an Intel Mac? ...Or are those just pipe dreams? (Yeah, I know that even just bootingby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
+1 for Thermapop. I swear, every time I use it I wonder why I struggled for so many years with other brands.by prymsnap - Tips and Deals

Ok, I *think* I found the issue. I might have had "web layout" clicked on the bottom right instead of "print layout." Because of course the icons look different than on my older Word version. I apologize for the panic attack. But in my work life, having a problem with Word means having a Very Big Problem. And while I'm sure there are less angst-y options out there, my clieby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Seriously ready to lose my mind. New MS Word on new Mac with Big Sur: when I change the enlargement (view) of a document, the page maragins grow or shrink accordingly. This is NOT what I've experienced in decades of MS Word use. In the past, the zoom button (bottom right of page) does that and only that: increase or decrease the magnification of the text. Margins were never impacted. All I want iby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Pretty amazing. I did a few experiments with images of people I didn't know. Not mentally prepared to do so with images of the dearly departed I miss the most.by prymsnap - Tips and Deals
QuoteOWC Larry thanks!!! We need to offer, if not produce something like this. Absolutely! I was a tiny bit hesitant about impacting the black plastic bottom cover on the Mini but once I started fiddling with the stand, it became apparent that it does not have to be super tight in order to keep the Mini stable. Also, there's about a 10mm gap between the dock and the Mini, so plenty of roomby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
QuoteZoidberg QuoteOWC Larry Nice setup in all respects! What stand is that? That's a nice stand too.... Very informative! Yes, this is an APFS formatted drive w/Big Sur. I have a lot to learn about both. Thanks, all.by prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Looking at the "get info" on the 1TB internal boot drive for my M1 Mini and noticed that the "modified" date says January 1, 2020 which is also the "created" date." The "modified" date should be updating to the current, right? Any thoughts on why it isn't doing that? Thx!by prymsnap - Tips and Deals

QuoteSarcany Looks right for what you're telling me. I've seen in Catalina that external APFS "Data" vols mount with no access to the contents of user-folders. It may be that one of the Mojave updates did something similar when I wasn't looking. If this is the same thing then the way to get around it is to either 1. QuoteSarcany Would you run this one command from the Terminal, please: diskutil list ...and then post the result. QuoteSarcany 1. How did you make the backup, and what software was used? (Clone? Disk Utility? Drag-Drop?) 2. What OS was running on the Mac used to make the backup? 3. What OS is running on the Mac that you are using to access the backup? 1. SuperDuper. 2 & 3. Old machine: High Sierra. New machine: Mojave (which makes me wonder about possible APFS issues). • Disk First Aid and PRAMby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Did the Terminal command. Does it normally take a long time to complete?by prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Quoterz This would be so much easier to do with a Unix command line. I would have assumed that when you clicked the lock and gave your admin password, it would have allow you to change the ownership. If you're willing to give it a try, here's what I would try in a command line in the terminal: sudo chown -R joanMBP /Volumes/TEMPTEMP/Users/joanpro It will then prompt for your admin passwby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Quoterz You do not appear to be the owner of that folder. Try this. Click the lock and unlock the folder. Highlight your name in the above window, then click on the gear. You should get a menu that says "make JoanMBP the owner". Select that. Wow, I didn't know about that option!. When I highlight my name and click on the gear, I see "make JoanMBP the owner" but it's graby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Quoterz Right click on the Pictures folder and do a Get Info. If possible, send a screenshot of that Get Info window. What the heck is with the Zero KB? That's not possible. BTW, clicking on the gear at bottom does not yield any additional options.by prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Quotehal click the little wheel and select 'Apply to enclosed items'. It may take a while to change ownership of EVERY file within. Ok, I did that: an alert asked me to confirm, which I did. After about five seconds I heard a quick "boop" and then the confirmation box disappeared. Nothing changed within the folder. Could it be that it takes a REALLY long time and I'm not being patiby prymsnap - Tips and Deals
As you can see, the "ignore ownership" box is checked and all users have read & write permission. And still several of the folders under my username (on the external non-boot drive) have the red circle.by prymsnap - Tips and Deals
Thanks for all the helpful advice. I've tried everything to no avail, including searching for the volinfo.database on the external (non-boot) drive and could not locate it. Disheartening.by prymsnap - Tips and Deals
