QuoteSteveO The commercial power grid in these affected areas of Texas should be paying for every_penny of these damages including wrongful death lawsuits. They are the ones who chose to leave their customers literally in the cold after being formally given the recommendations by the Feds that would have fixed these issues 10 years ago. I agree that the power operators ought to be held accountby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Thank you for posting this - I signed up for the beta last summer, was asked to update my address from simply a zip code to a specific location in the fall, and have heard nary a peep since (and I'm in a service location I would think is eligible for SpaceX testing in NE WI near the UP.) Disappointed I never got an official beta invite. Concerned that SpaceX may be playing favorites in somby gabester - Tips and Deals

Snowblowers are for wimps... real men use Snowovels! But getting back on-topic, yes, weather reporting it's X inches isn't as helpful as Y-foot-gallons or something like that, in other words one square foot of snow is the equivalent weight of so many gallons of water... feels a little more specific than SWE.by gabester - Tips and Deals
Problem is, Kinzinger's from Illinois, and I predict he'll flame out in disgrace or corruption like other Illinois Republican proteges and impresarios such as Aaron Shock, Jack Ryan , Bruce Rauner, or even Dennis Hastert, or just to name a few who come to mind off the top of my head. And of course honorable mention should go to the Illinois Gubernatorial Incarceration Rate!by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I just want to point out that as our grid becomes increasingly renewable-powered, zero emissions will slip away from our grasp thanks to upcoming energy-consumption increases from the likes of EVs (currently our gas/diesel/ethanol vehicles aren't accounted on the power grid) as well as blockchain-derived virtual currencies and training/utilization of increasingly pervasive AI. And let's not forgeby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotehal President Trump rescinded an executive order early Wednesday morning that had limited federal administration officials from lobbying the government or working for foreign countries after they leave their posts, undoing one of the few measures he had instituted to fulfill his 2016 campaign promise to “drain the swamp.” Trump had signed the executive order with much fanfare in an Ovby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
It's been a day of memories... And past this I'm content to let the 45th President slip in to memory except for occasional updates on his hopefully ongoing legal defeats for criminal malfeasance! But maybe a T-Shirt that says "I survived... and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt and a flu that was supposed to go away by April." Too soon?by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I was thinking this thread would be about the organization declaring bankrupcty as a way to get out of liability due to a New York State law this year allowing those who have experienced abuse at the hands of an organization (think JW or the one that sounds like Science but ends in -tology) at any point in the past to file suit against the organization. Netflix has a show about it I think...by gabester - Tips and Deals
QuoteLemon Drop So when future historians want to write about Trump, how do they get these tweets? Its the primary record of his presidency. .They are not in the public domain and never will be. Links to his tweets embedded in thousands of existing articles are now dead. This is nerdy me thinking out loud, not that important. This site still has records, so maybe the content is accessible viby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteAcer If they all died in one day, we'd be invading a country, any country, the next day. Since much of this elevated death rate is due to one man refusing to wear or advocate for wearing a mask and constantly undermining the science of his own administration's health officials, let's start there. Seize his properties and use the profits as restitution for the families of the dead. Or at leby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotenumbered (Murkowski) is no Bernie, but if Schumer can offer the right incentives (e.g., committee assignments), we might not need Kamala as a tie breaker. I think having Kamala BE the tie breaker is great exposure and makes her a much more active, participatory Veep than her predecessor... so ideally keep the numbers 50-50 as much as possible to wield the cudgel of the Vice Presidency.by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteLemon Drop This is the culmination of 20 years of ignoring our right wing domestic terror problem. They were a contingent in search of a general and they found him in Donald j trump. It bears repeating, that's a guy who's said on more than one occasion that "I am the least racist person in the room." - which of course is a sure sign he is far from it... I'm a little surprised that everyone's favorite alt-Pirate Dan Crenshaw is not on the list. Mildly pleased that he has some sense of true patriotism and duty. I still don't agree with his politics at all but at least he's not completely trolled by or subjugated to this kleptokakistocracy. QuoteSpeedy Why? What has Pres. Trump actually done to deserve impeachment and conviction? He is not responsible for the actions of the Deplorables. At the rally prior to the storming of the Capitol he told the crowd "I will lead you to the Capitol and we will show our support to those brave Senators... and some we won't show so much support for" or something similar. In Trump-speakby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I fear they now will use the excuse that "since congress could not get the electoral votes counted on the duly appointed day, we must resort to selecting the President by a vote of the States' delegations." Which since they have something like a 26-24 (or maybe 27-23) majority of states with majority Republican representation means they very well can select Trump as their President. I need some batteries to go with some of presents received over the holidays... Had a 30-some pack of AAs for a few years, and a 10-20 some pack of AAA energizers roughly over the same duration. Used to have a bunch of energizer and duracel rechargables too, mostly AA with a few AAA thrown in... but they never seem to last for more than a few dozen recharge cycles (which admittedly is better thanby gabester - Tips and Deals
I was suckered by some fake 512GB and 1TB drives a few months ago, definitely fell into the "too good to be true" category... I think the 512 was $12 and the 1TB was $28? QuoteArtP Movies used to be based on ticket sales in $$$$ but wonder how the new home streaming is going to figure what movie will be number 1 next week? I had dreams of Motorola selling StarMax 6000s dual booting Windows NT and taking over the corporate world... then Steve Jobs returned to Apple and pulled the rug out from under them and Motorola had to take a half billion write off. Which iPads work with which pencil versions? I'm not sure I want to reward the bad behavior of mid-2010s Apple with their confusing naming and product rollouts and compatibility issues... but I do want an Apple Pencil for my $330 6th gen iPad 128GB from 2018.by gabester - Tips and Deals
