I don't pretend to understand even a Cliff's Notes version of the Freemasons' history nor why the Catholic Church and other institutions perceive them to be such a threat.by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteLemon Drop It'll be interesting to see what the GOP does next year. Their big donors have no appetite for another Trump loss. I'm not sure how many of their big donors have an appetite for another pAB win... He not only could spell the end of US democracy but the global capitalist system in favor of a corrupt-thumb-on-the-scale kleptocracy where spy agencies are used to steal business seby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteRAMd®d ...the Repubs, as soon as they realized what a crook he was, they sprang into action and excised the problem. I think you're being sarcastic, but clearly took for some of them being directly robbed - direct proof! - by this crook to oust him. And, you know, the appearance of some kind of due process with the completion of the House Ethics Committee review.by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotehal Out in California, they know to look for unexplainably high power bills long before anyone complains about a smell. I'm surprised someone doesn't put their grow lab inside datacenter racks and claim they're mining bitcoin.by gabester - Tips and Deals
On a related note I was super disappointed to discover that the cable for an Apple Watch is not capable of connecting to and charging an iPhone... even at a trickle overnight. :-(by gabester - Tips and Deals
It looks like they've got the votes... 311 to 114 with 2 present and 8 yet to come in. Wait, some switcheroos, now 310 to 115 with 2 voting present and 8 outstanding. It looks like house resolution 878 will pass!by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteAugust West ...I see Steve G's post as a manageable read and the original as a god-awful, unreadable mess... So for you it's more about the formatting of the messenger, not the message? Wars have been fought over less!by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quoteanonymouse1 That would have been my first choice! But it's not approved software, so.... Thanks! QuoteTiangou The kind that sends people to Google. I know all about approved software in organizations, but... it's a website? Are you saying it's blocked, or you need to track submitters' IDs for veracity (people submitting subordinates)? wait, am I confused on the semantics here? Is their argument literally just: "support" != "preserve" "support" != "protect" "support" != "defend" therefor our client is not guilty? I'll also note that "protect" != "preserve" "defend" != "preserve" These rainy day strict construcby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Just beware that if you are "reserving" a Google account for use down the road, that Google is about to start periodically culling inactive accounts so you'll need to plan to occasionally sign in to those accounts or they will be gone (or possibly just recreated by someone else and you won't be able to use them.)by gabester - Tips and Deals
I've been able to get "sale" priced $1.50 dozen eggs every time I've gone to the store for the past two-three months at least, and the regular priced ones are $2-3 tops. More concerning is that other essential foodstuffs that I hadn't seen as much inflation as reported by others has caught up and roughly doubled from its pre-pandemic sale prices. It would be very interesting toby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
School boards need to be able to weed those sort of "paid protestors" out from actual parents and vested community members.by gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotemattkime I'm sure it will be entertaining. For some unlucky people it's going to be downright tragic. I just hope it's no one that anyone here has any personal connection with.by gabester - Tips and Deals
That's really too bad.. As much as we don't need Apple to further extend their vertical monopoly / market control, we even less need Qualcomm to continue to be the de facto monopolist on cellular communications. If Apple couldn't get it across the finish line, I think we're stuck with Qualcomm and whoever China's backing (Huawei I guess?)by gabester - Tips and Deals
Hm... given that neural networks still draw people with unnatural numbers of fingers and even limbs... I don't have a great feeling about this. Not so much for the everyday scenarios, but the edge cases where an unexpected object is in the road, or another vehicle does something unexpected.by gabester - Tips and Deals
I gotta say this has vaguely bothered me too, but now that I've read someone else's complaint about it I realize I'm being petty and need to find bigger things to worry about. Either hit delete or just start typing; or MAYBE you wanted to search for that same term again and FF is doing you a favor!by gabester - Tips and Deals
Thank you for the report and testing one of those out and taking the hit. I have to wonder if the two units you have were nearby each other in the production line where kinks are still getting ironed out or defective components were involved. I would have considered one of these displays if I had need for one, but they're a bit beyond my budget.by gabester - Tips and Deals
Yeah a combo unit might actually be nice in our household. Things frequently go like this: Family member 1 declares they're going to do a load of wash. Family member 2 declares they also need to do a load of wash. Family member 3 declares the same but can wait. Family member 2 starts said load. Family member 1 complains because they had dibs. QuoteLemon Drop QuoteAcer There are days when I wish the governments would end support for public broadcasting, just to no longer have to hear conservatives incessantly whine about it. National level PBS, big city stations and the marquis content producers would probably be fine, but I'm sure the local stations and small production companies would feel the pinch much harder. I think they movedby gabester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

QuoteN-OS X-tasy! Quotegabester If you're complaining that circles don't have size, I'd say it's you being insensible to common parlance of sides and ends and across. Could the speakers/writers be more syntactically exacting? Sure. I believe the statement made was "circles don't have sides." Not sizes. I blame text autocorrection!by gabester - Tips and Deals
Diameter is not circumference, agreed. But if I tell you a circle's diameter, you had darn well better know how to calculate its circumference and area from it. Diameter is a clear, consistent measurement to use for circles - and it's measured with a straight line, and gives you a dimension that is key to discerning the area needed to contain your circle. If I tell you my circle has a 6&qby gabester - Tips and Deals
I'll second Kodi - it has a little bit of a learning curve but I wouldn't say it's any steeper than Plex, and no internet-based account required to do anything allowing you to be spied upon in some way. I had Kodi running on my FireTV sticks, android tablet, even accessing its content through a Chromebook and iPad.by gabester - Tips and Deals
I wonder if CAS9 CRISPR recombinant DNA techniques combined with a dart delivery method could sterilize the populations? Agreed that this is an ALMOST legitimate USE automatic weapons. Effective population control and elimination probably could derive from some other technique. OK... but have you guys ever seen how much effort goes into elevator maintenance? I can't believe this would work reliably enough that it could store a signficant amount of energy. Sure it might be fine as an alternative to a battery system to adjust peak loads or even out voltages or something while other systems come online, but... I hope we come up with some breakthrough soon. I know the iby gabester - Tips and Deals
