Considering I'm coming from a first gen Airbook that specialized in spinning beach balls every few minutes and constantly overheated, the 13"MBPR feels snappy, but we'll see what it's like in three months.

New Macbook in the House. Whoop, whoop. I replaced my first gen Air with a retina display Macbook 13. Loving the quickness so far, and the retina does look better to this old eyes. And the complete lack of spinning beach balls warms me heart.

If they're playing, catch either a Lakers or Clippers game at Staples Center. Though not the best time of the year, stroll around the Huntington for an afternoon. Go eat amazing food in San Gabriel's Chinatown strip. Run up the coast to Santa Barbara for a day.

I loved the civet (or weasel poop) coffee I had in Vietnam, but paid just a few dollars for a bag to bring home. I'd imagine that whatever chemical process worked its wonders with the civets is at play with the elephant, too. I wonder if steel cut oatmeal, put through the bowels of a civet or elephant, would be better?

Thanks all for the help. Can't really wait, since I just gave up my Pentax to my son, so I think I'll jump on the refurb 5100 and look for an 18-200 for walking around. The 3200 is tempting, but I still feel like the 5100 ticks more of my boxes.

Yep, got it last week. I teach college and travel a lot, so in both cases I often find myself in tight quarters with lots of people. I rely on flu shots and a regimen of twice-weekly Bombay martinis to kill any little germs that make their way in (and still keep my fingers crossed).

I was there for a week earlier in the year. I highly recommend arranging for a meal at Touich Restaurant. Have your concierge arrange for a free pickup from the restaurant. I just dropped my son off for first year at college. Ditto the mother holding it together less well than the father remark, though I've been rather misty all week. That period from kindergarten to college seemed to go by way too quickly, so enjoy every moment.

Doesn't the ranking kind of make sense? Mac users are willing to pay more for higher quality things, so we should have the four star hotels come up first. I don't want a cheap PC, and I don't want to stay at Motel 6.

Like: they stand by what they sell. My wife had a Dyson vacuum stop after three years, and they didn't blink an eye in refunding the money, even though she didn't have a receipt. Did the same thing with a freezer that blew during a storm. I don't like to buy anything major from anywhere else. They are supposed to have tightened up on their tv returns since there was a lot of abuse. I also like th
