Bought a 2.0 dual that took a shot to the case. Works great..bottom flange-ish that connects to the leg has popped a few rivets. I bent everything back nicely with several clamps and a bit of wonder bar hoopla...still doesn't want to sit flat.
Im thinking, really intense glue, it'll look like new.
Gots to be able to hold a bit of pressure as this flange-ish, wants to pop away from the case

Uh,
Im only sposed to have three ram slots in this machine (g4 DA 533 dual) but when i open system profiler it says that there are 4 slots...2 empty. And, the guy who sold it to me has one chunk of pc 133 loaded and one chunk of pc 100 loaded...the min requirement for the machine is 133, no?
straighten me out, please.

Im considering a jump from a g5 1.6 to a dual 2.0...is this really worth my while? For what Im going to get for my 1.6 i dont have to go to far moneywise to get the 2.0 im looking at. Im just wondering if I shouldn't hold out for a bigger speed jump. Ill have to kick in about 400 to make the 2.0 after i sell my 1.6.
is there that big of a difference between the dual 2.0's and the 2.3's

There are two ports so maybe i should be careful to check em both. I tested my firewire in the comp..hadn't used it in a week or so and it works fine with an external firewire drive.

Ok, I just tried it using USB and it works fine but it's not as fast as I'd like it to be. Why wouldn't it be working in Firewire?
Im running 10.3.9
The drive doesn't even get recognized in system profiler when it's plugged in to Firewire. In USB it gets recognized.

Hi I've got a somewhat old Lacie external burner that came with Toast 5.1.3
I barely used the burner and now I want to use it. I hooked it up, everything seems fine except Toast won't fire up when i start it. It acts like it does and the menu appears for maybe a 1/64 of a second and then disappears to be replaced by the finder menubar.
Also, is the Lacie drive supposed to appear on my deskt

Im wondering about networking with a router.
I've hooked up a d-link router for my internet, going to three comps.
I want to be able to network between two of them.
When I apply file sharing it says blah blah, "people on macs will be able to access files" etc. Does this mean Im availabe to the world? or just my comps? Im on cable internet and I have no experience networking.

Didn't work, phoned comcast and they said that there is television in that line but no internet. They also said that not all lines are tapped to contain both. so...OH WELL. the comcast dude is coming tomorrow. we'll see...

Do I need any special tools for installing male jacks on the ends of the cable?
Any other tips, complete lessons and how toooos would be appreciated.

I copped a 533 dual g4 D.A. the other day, very nice, My new/old backup utility machine.
I installed a brand new drive I had sitting around. everything seems to be fine with it. works. But, I went to verify the disc and see if it needed anything...just for whatever. I get the enter Admin password window. When i type it, I get a rejection of the password

The scanner is mine and is a Heidelberg saphire ultra II. great software in the linocolor. I use it, primarily, for scanning rolls of cut negs to make contact sheets for my portrait clients...other minor stuff too. It's just fine for this part of my biz.
Anyhow...thanks for the tip on the "USB 1 and FW 400 -- G4 500 = sawtooth" I'll keep that in mind when i talk to him next.
