I've got five squeezebox products (1 classic, 1 touch, 1 radio and 2 booms) still running in my house. Runs off an old Vostro 200 running Win10 sitting in my basement. Still (in my opinion) a superior product for my needs compared to Sonos or any of the other similar products. When/if the hardware fails, I will likely build a Raspberry Pi-based replacement. Even set up Alexa-based control via IFT

Is she really needing/wanting a multi-room centralized system? That's one of the strengths of Sonos and the like. There are so many products out there, you really need to figure out what problem she's wanting to solve.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you don't add the interest, you're not compounding. You're just getting 1% of 1000 (which is 10) every day. This will do daily compounding.

I believe automator can only directly access files that are indexed by spotlight, and I suspect those hidden files are not. Though maybe use this info to use automator to do a terminal shell command: http://osxdaily.com/2012/07/05/delete-all-ds-store-files-from-mac-os-x/

What software do you use? I use H&R Block, but was doing some testing relative to the Dependent Care FSA vs. Dependent Care credit, and it doesn't seem like the software automatically accounts for the possibility of reporting both. I put in a question to them, as (somewhat like you) it will affect how I file and thus what my refund will be...

As the owner of a 2000 CR-V, I've noticed the newer CR-Vs have gotten bigger on the outside but not bigger on the inside. You might also consider a Honda Fit. Grados are good but somewhat uncomfortable, if you're ok with open (lets sound through) design. For closed/sealed, check out Sennheiser HD280Pro or Audio Technica ATH-M50.

18 years ago (when I moved out of the dorm and into private housing in college...) I bought the cheapest microwave at Best Buy I could find, a Daewoo. It's still going. Granted, it certainly isn't the strongest thing in the world, but it works to heat my water for hot chocolate (yes, I know stove is better!) or warm up the odd dinner plate. Go figure. Freenas if you want to build your own or qnap if you don't. The only thing this might not solve is how your store your photos - if you use iPhoto, it doesn't play nice with storage on non-local drives.

Maybe a used Honda Fit? As part of your budgeting process, make sure you budget for maintenance in addition to gas, insurance, taxes etc. I'd also suggest making a savings plan for the next car. A lot of people just assume they'll have to finance their next car purchase. Once the current car is paid off (which could be immediately) - or even before it's paid off - start saving for the next
