I'm not at all surprised that the $250 I spent on a DVD-RW in 2004 may have been an inflated price, particularly since I got its replacement in 2010 for about 10% of that.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
Happy 44th Anniversary!by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
I stalled mine once when hitting a brick accidentally. No evidence for damage, though. I've accidentally run over branches (about an inch or so thick) without stalling it. I destroyed an impact sprinkler by running over it with the mower - there was a "bang" followed by plastic and twisted metal all over the place - mower just kept on keeping on. This is my fifth summer with it. Itby S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
Was she perhaps a computer? A giggly, vapid computer keeps calling me asking if I'm interested in a free vacation. How can I tell she's a computer? Every call starts the same way with a giggle and a claim "her" headset fell off. Intonations are identical, clicks/pops are identical. Every question or comment on my part is followed by "I'm sorry, my headset isn't working,"by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
"Ignore this user" works quite well. I wish it would block threads started by the offending troll, though, not just the troll's individual posts.by S. Pupp - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Call me cynical, but this is what I imagine: Boring, to a senator's intern: "We want to build a hyperloop connecting New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, DC." Intern: "Sure dude, whatever." Boring, to the press: "We have verbal government approval. Now buy our stock!"by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
I wonder if they took into account the lost income tax, increased disability payouts, and the expensive strain on emergency departments that eventually makes its way down to grab the wallets of those who can afford insurance.by S. Pupp - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

QuoteLew Zealand And anyway The Doctor already regenerated into a woman, played by Joanna Lumley*. * and when did that happen? The Curse of Fatal Death is one of my all-time favorites. Oh, my wife has changed her tune, and now says the is glad her gender is represented in the form of the new Doctor. As for me: In the face of change, I like a degree of consistency. I didn'tby S. The 36% want and deserve to hear what a great President we have. Stop confusing them with facts. They can't take it.by S. Pupp - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
In the '90s, I borrowed a Honda Civic that scraped the road at the bottom of moderate hills. I rented a Civic hatchback that scraped every speed bump in my apartment complex. I'm not a fan of "hugging the road." It's not practical.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
My strong-willed, independent, feminist wife feels that casting a woman as Doctor Who is "stupid. The character is a man. Next, they'll be casting James Bond as a woman."by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
Humanity has the ability to compensate for weakness by using whatever is available to us in the environment. We are one of few relatively hairless animals to survive the ice age. We are the only mammal living on every continent, including Antarctica. Even if only 2000 of us survive, we'll return. It's happened before.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
What a shame. It can be very difficult to find decent, honest contractors who know what they are doing. They're out there, but how do you identify them?by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
Given that David Tennant's Doctor regenerated back into himself in one two-part episode, it would be quite amusing if Capaldi's Doctor regenerated back into David Tennant.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
>If one was doing a house from scratch, would a person have a closet with a switch, with an outlet to each room in the house? I put a switch in a bedroom closet as a retrofit. Its size and central location made it the easiest room to thread cable to. I color coded the jacks to make diagnosis quicker, should a cable fail at some point.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
The History Channel lost me as a customer when they aired "Did Aliens Write the Bible?"by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
That is so freakin' cool! Low End Mac has an article on adapting a modern SLA battery to use with the Macintosh Portable. Nuts! The battery they mention is as available as the original Mac Portable battery - in other words, not at all. A SCSI2SD adapter will let you use SD cards with SCSI Macs. An Asante EN/SC mini 10T (not the PowerBook version) will give you ethernet access.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
Another tip: Buckwheat pancakes are better if you don't use Buckwheat as the one and only source of flour.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
If Sears and K-Mart go out of business, with Craftsman power tools cease to be?by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
I used Sophos for a while, followed by Kaspersky and then by Norton. Sophos was the least objectionable, but any real-time antivirus on my late 2008 MBP seems to tax it quite heavily.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals

Quotehal I try so hard to keep my space clear of junk - I can't imagine why people want to pick 20 year old computers off the street. Sure, you might get it running - then you can watch it run. I've got a 30 year old toaster, but it works better than a new one. Having a collection of purchased software dating back to 1986, and not the funds to replace the software every time it is rendered oby S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
I've also had difficulty with a C2D MBP (late 2008) with the same general setup getting progressively sluggish with Mavericks and later OS's. I have a backup (thanks to Carbon Copy Cloner) of a fresh installation of Mavericks on a flash drive, and use Carbon Copy Cloner to reinstall it when that happens. I have yet to determine a reason for the sluggishness. If I had the funds, I'd upgrade theby S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
There are no words. Oh, yes there are: The end of the world is nigh.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
QuoteRacer X Ya, Ya, spanken de Helga mit de floggin. That's not German. It appears to be a variation of Afrikaans. Your grammar, as translated by Google, is terrible, though: "Ya, Ya, the Helga with the floggin spank." Stick to English from now on, please.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
Guilty. Not as effective as reading Stereophile while on the loo, however. Seeing the prices of the items reviewed was quite an effective laxative.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals
