I second davester's advice regarding Deoxit on the speaker terminals. If that works, it saves you unnecessary work.
Home Depot carries CRC QD Contact Cleaner that also works well and is fairly cheap. CRC electrical grade 2-26 helps to keep the connection clean afterwards, and works well on the pots.
