My late 2008 MBP still kicks butt. Well, not really, but it'll still do the job until El Capitan is no longer supported. If I need more processing power, I use TeamViewer to access my hexacore i7 PC. It would be worthwhile proving that this exercise is a waste of time. A printout of this thread should be evidence enough. A friend of mine once got partial credit for answering a college analytical chemistry exam question with a poem about how useless the question was. Many years ago on the DealChat forum, RAMd®d made a very amusing comment at my expense. Shortly after, I received an email from him, expressing a hope that I realize it was not personal. That gentlemanly gesture led me to abandon my attempt to come up with a comeback to end all comebacks (an attempt that was in its third hour at the time). I hope his absence is only temporary.by S. I've had great luck with an earlier model 1TB Crucial in my late 2008 MBP. I personally would not spend more than the ~$250 that the current Crucial drive costs.by S. Pupp - Tips and Deals

Try petroleum jelly. It can repel the water absorbed into the wood that is causing the stain. It worked on my boss's expensive desk after I spilled water on it. I'd have gotten away with it, too, if my boss hadn't walked in to find me applying Neosporin (the only source of petroleum jelly available to me at the time) to a large area of his expensive desk.
