Hey Beerman, Sorry I missed you but glad to hear you had a good time. I had a 5 hour tour on the 23rd (Wed). Did you get that massage you were looking for? Alohaby Frank - Tips and Deals
Beerman, Swimming at Tunnels is something you should ask the lifeguards at Haena Beach Park about. You will probably have to park there anyway and walk back to Tunnels as the parking is very limited in the vicinity. The wave faces yesterday were 30 feet, the largest waves the Hanalei firemen have ever seen. Waves were breaking over the Hanalei Pier and the parking lot at Black Pot Beach. Aloha Beerman, I've lived on Kauai for 10 years, visited for 19 prior to that. You will find that the Poipu area you are staying in is pretty messed up with construction ... our Planning Dept. is non-functional and has approved several big concurrent developments without the needed infrastructure. Lots of detours, noise and dust. This will only affect you going to and from Kiahuna. Photo in todaby Frank - Tips and Deals
QuoteBigGuynRusty... what little HD content Time Warner carries, you can only receive with a TW HD-DVR box, at an extra 30 bucks a month, that of course is only the broadcast channels... BGnR Are you sure about that? I read somewhere that the broadcast channels could be tuned in with the basic TW cable package, assuming you have a HD tuner.by Frank - Tips and Deals
Could be the contacts are dirty. Try wiping the contacts on the card and inserting it several times into the camera slot. Happens to me frequently.by Frank - Tips and Deals
Washed my car in the rain today. No need to rinse!by Frank - Tips and Deals
Jake Shimabakuru (may have mispelled that) IS gifted. Lots of great ukulele players here in Hawaii (and Japan). David Kamakahi, Ohta San, Herb Ohta, etc.by Frank - Tips and Deals
I have Trex decking on my 2nd floor lanai. It has held up very well (nine years in Kauai) except for the last couple of feet that is exposed to rain, where its growing mold. I'll have to replace that last section that extends beyond the roofline. Friends have installed Ipe. The finish on the ipe does not hold up and requires annual (at least) re-application. Left unfinished it will turn grey. Theby Frank - Tips and Deals
I have both in my system. They are both reliable. The Hunter heads I use cover larger areas and are comletely adjustable. The Rainbird heads I use are pop-up, fan coverage for smaller areas.by Frank - Tips and Deals
I have had an Oregon Scientific for several years. It works well, helps me tally the annual rainfall (110.8" here in upper Wailua, Kauai), and gives me insight into which way the weather is turning. Right now its 77.7 degrees F, 82% humidity, no wind, trending from cloudy to sunny. Wish those trades would start blowing! edit: mine is the old type, with wired sensors.by Frank - Tips and Deals
Great price on the Garmin. I used this model on a recent 6700 mile trip from Kentucky to Seattle. It was indispensible. Looks like a great deal on the Olympus camera too.by Frank - Tips and Deals
Bummer, Hawaii is not on the list of states. My skin will have to remain dry and rough!by Frank - Tips and Deals
Great story! Brings back lots of memories. Recently (May), we attended a Corvetteforum Cruise-in drag racing event near Bowling Green, Kentucky. Lots of fast Vettes, tire smoke and noise. We were there to pick up our new Monterey Red Vette convertible at the National Corvette Museum, across from the factory. Your story and this recent experience makes me want to drive out to the local drags hereby Frank - Tips and Deals
I've been using this for a long time...works great. FYI not all machines give the three dings. Also, when you lose power this button will revert to its default and will need to be reprogrammed.by Frank - Tips and Deals
My wife stocks up at TJs whenever she visits her family in California. We've been suggesting for many years that they open a store here in Kauai. They would do very well. For some reason they are adamantly opposed to the idea. I used to buy the frozen shrimp when we lived in San Jose. She buys nuts, ginger slices, ginger snap cookies, orange chocolate candies. Nearly everything we've tried is gby Frank - Tips and Deals
Keep in mind that it won't operate as well, mounted low on the wall, as it would up high. I put a small Panasonic unit in my bedroom wall when building the house. The walls have 6" studs and there is still no blocking of the exterior air vents on the AC unit. Works fine on those hot nights.by Frank - Tips and Deals
I got the Garmin 2720 from Amazon. Just put a bunch of locations in it for a cross country trip from Kentucky (picking up our new Vette convertible in Bowling Green next week!!!!) to the port in Seattle. Been using it a little here on Kauai. This is a way cool piece of gear. They promise Mac compatability later this year. Not holding my breath.by Frank - Tips and Deals
I also recommend the Brother 420CN. Tiny little thing that does everything well. I print from my G5 thru usb and my wife prints with Airport from her iBook to our router which is connected to the Brother. The separate ink colors don't last too long but are relatively inexpensive. Unlike the two Epsons that I gave away this has never had head clogging problems. Great deal.by Frank - Tips and Deals
I have a solar hot water system that works great. Two 4x8 panels on the roof and a small photovoltaic panel that powers a circulation pump. When the sun shines water is pumped thru the panels and back to the 125 gal storage tank. Tank has electric heat that boosts the temp when the solar is inadequate. In Hawaii, with the tax incentives and high cost of electricity, the solar hot water systems haby Frank - Tips and Deals
Stephanie, I beg to differ about Roundup. It only kills those plants that the spray hits and is translocated to the roots. It does nothing to the soil and is not persistent in the soil. It sounds like another chemical was used by your neighbor.by Frank - Tips and Deals
Just had the brakes done on my '98 Ford F150. The front right caliper locked up after a long grade. After it cooled it seemed to be ok but I replaced it anyway. They turned the rotors (plenty of steel there for that), replaced the caliper and pads. I figured it was due for this at 65,000 miles. The caliper problem seemed strange. Corrosion may have been a factor, living on Kauai. Turning the rotoby Frank - Tips and Deals
Car & Driver and Motor Trend suck. Road & Track is very good, worth the subscription if only for the Peter Egan column.by Frank - Tips and Deals
Thanks for the reply Joycee. I don't have these options in my Mail 2.07 prefs but it did prompt me to carefully go thru all the options. I made a couple of changes and will see what happens.by Frank - Tips and Deals
When I begin a new message in Mail 2.07 I get an error saying that Mail cannot save this message. This seems to have started as a result of my upgrade (combo) to 10.4.6 Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it? I ran Permissions Repair before and after the upgrade and started on a separate partition to run First Aid after the upgrade. This didn't solve the problem.
