Does this mean I'm getting DSL? - 16 years ago

I'm 3 miles from a town of 4000 and everytime I call SBC about DSL, they say "not yet". I noticed a SBC box sticking out of the ground across the highway from the end of my driveway today. Does this mean anything? I'll call them tomorrow, but I want to be armed with info in case the person on the phone is a no-nothing.

I've seen them not start even if the posts looked clean, but start after the terminals were rejiggered. My aunt carries a $3 Wal-Mart hammer for hers; she pops the positive terminal and it starts. Get thee to a Sam's or Wal-Mart and get a $50 jump starter.

I've noticed that when I close some of the doors, there's a vacuum suck. Does that mean I should be sure to leave them open or if I cant. shave the bottoms of the doors off?

I'll increase the return air area before this summer. Another problem is that it seems in certain out-of-the-way corners in 2 or 3 rooms, the air isn't being pulled out and there are mold spots and lingering cooking smells.

The ducts are well-insulated. I'm thinking the trunks are not sized right and the registers are toward the middle of the rooms; I've heard they should be by the outer windows. The air return is at the unit, which is the center of the house. The return air area is barely adequate in square inches, according to a chart I saw somewhere. I have a 1700 SF house with a 3.5 ton heat pump. The ducts are in the attic and water condenses around the registers in the ceiling and leaks onto the floor in a few areas. The whole system was done by a country carpenter in 1974 and a new heat pump was slapped in on a 100+ day about 4 years ago, so nothing about the system is scientific. This review from the link at the bottom was what got me wondering. The specs in the Amazon Apple info say it has a modem. The "$599 version" is ambiguous to me. "Drawbacks? I noticed one at Amazon that didn't have one. Is there a stopping-point, speed-wise or some other way to quickly tell if it has a modem without having to delve into the inner specs? Do the ones with modems not have wireless and vice versa?

Too hard. I had a USB modem but it got fried, also. I've had several modems that quit because of power outages. I wonder if something happens that can be fixed that I don't know how to fix..

I think it has zinc in it. Zinc taken orally is helpful for people who have diminished smell. I'm assuming too much zinc in contact with the olfactory nerves might might kick them into gear too long, too strong and burn them out.
