Business as usual (2)... - Sarcany - 01-08-2021 https://www.ajc.com/politics/strict-absentee-voting-limits-proposed-after-record-georgia-turnout/BLDBKKOLCJDU7FWUAM4CPNZ43I/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot Republican legislators plan to crack down on voting access after record turnout helped Democrat Joe Biden win Georgia, flipping the state after 24 years of GOP presidential wins. They blame absentee ballots, used by 1.3 million Georgians who voted from home during the coronavirus pandemic. In all, 5 million people voted in the general election. ...Republicans say they need to protect election integrity from the possibility of cheating. ...Proposed voting restrictions in Georgia Require an excuse to cast an absentee ballot Ban absentee ballot drop boxes Mandate photo ID to be included when returning an absentee ballot Eliminate mobile voting buses during early voting Forbid governments and organizations from mailing absentee ballot applications Re: Business as usual (2)... - sekker - 01-08-2021 Losing power is hard. If Stacey Abrams continues to win with her approach of getting out the vote in person, the irony is that in normal elections, absentee ballots were favoring the GOP. Re: Business as usual (2)... - rgG - 01-08-2021 I was just reading that this morning and bitching to my husband about it. We have had no excuse absentee ballots for years here, but as soon as people on the opposing side starts using them, well that’s not ok. How on earth can removing voting drop boxes be a good thing? Why can’t a political group mail out absentee ballot applications? That seems like an infringement on free speech. I am not going to address each one, but it is just wrong. This is attempted voter suppression, plain and simple, and I am not surprised. Re: Business as usual (2)... - Acer - 01-08-2021 "Prevent cheating." Like this and every other similar measure in Republican controlled states..PROVE THE CHEATING then fix it. How can you fix it if you can't demonstrate where it is broken? And no, white people losing is NOT proof. Ironic that those who rail against "big government" are now apparently wanting to require that we all be photographed and identified. Voters are not criminals. Re: Business as usual (2)... - pdq - 01-08-2021 We need the Voting Rights Act back. These states had their chance to prove it wasn’t needed anymore, and they’ve proved the EXACT opposite, in their rush to bring back Jim Crow. Re: Business as usual (2)... - Acer - 01-08-2021 We're well past the age of seeming arbitrary and innocent rules that are actually cunningly targeted against specific demographics! We are enlightened, now! It's a golden age! --SCOTUS Re: Business as usual (2)... - Lemon Drop - 01-08-2021 pdq wrote: Yes Most important thing Biden Harris Pelosi Schumer need to get done. Re: Business as usual (2)... - pdq - 01-08-2021 The hilarious thing is that these people are so convinced that everyone thinks like them that they keep advertising their endorsement of this odious movement. And then they are shocked and whine endlessly when the free market reacts. Re: Business as usual (2)... - Carnos Jax - 01-08-2021 These actions if passed needs to be challenged in the courts. |
