Ok - a useful response - Get a UPS and a whole house surge protector.

Apple seems to have fixed graphics support with the M4 chip. Can run 3 external monitors with the lowest M4 Mac mini and M4 MBP.

A surge protector doesn't protect against a lightening strike.

Unless it's unplugged, there's a good chance that a lightning strike will damage it anyway.

I'll protect against indirect strikes. My point was that if lightening is a concern then there are likely a lot more devices in your house to worry about such as appliances.

After a bit of googling, if lightening strikes are a concern, there are some steps a qualified electrician could take to help prevent damage such as installing a lightening rod and ensuring adequate grounding, etc.

Get a bookend, and run the mini sideways.

It has a heat tube that probably needs to be oriented a certain way.

I think at most moving the mP4 from the expected position would mean the fan might come on sooner.

So I'd expect the fan would obviate any need for a particular position.
