It's morning, no sign of chipmunk, dead or alive.
There's a chipmunk behind my refrigerator…

He's out there somewhere. Just waiting to swoop down on you. Or perhaps run up your pants leg, with the cat close behind, claws out. Aaauuuugh ! The horror !

If your house is older there are probably many more mouse entrances than you may be aware of.
I know I keep finding new potential ways in with my old pile of sticks.

Have-a-heart live trap..
Bait with a bit of peanut butter. Works for me when Max bring in little chipmunk buddies. Oh, and one tip that the chipmunk is still in the house is when you find little "stashes" of cat food in places Malibu didn't put 'em. That or you find half a banana on your kitchen counter where you could SWEAR you left a whole banana. (how that chipmunk snarfed down a whole half-banana, I'll never know...).

Hey Paul,
I might need to borrow some of your ordnance…

Hey Blooz -- if you call your local humane society or the wildlife control center, they'll probably have humane traps that you can go pick up. I would use peanut butter for bait, as it's smelly enough to attract the little creature. Set one by the fridge, but also look around for any other spaces (vents, under doors, etc.) he could get into. We used to have trouble with hamsters getting out and into vents when I was a kid, and my dad would invent traps to catch them again, and it always worked.
