Comic book grading?

Stopped in at the local Comic Book/Gaming store today to pick up sleaves and boards. Brought one of the comic books with me to make sure I picked up the right size. The clerk was flabbergasted that I was just holding the 'book and carrying it around.

I did look at a bunch that they had in their collection and I don't think most of mine are as bad as I thought they were. They said they do buy collections or individuals, but the guy that does that only works 1 day a week. I'm going to stop by when he is working and see what he thinks.

Nothing is universal, but from my experience, buyers at comics shops aren’t quite as cutthroat as pawnshops, but they do valuate what you have with an eye towards making a very ‘healthy’ profit, to put it lightly.

I'm pretty much ok with that. I buy and sell a lot of things and typically I look to offer a price that gives me at least a 50% gross profit margin. That usually turns into a 25-35% net after shipping, fees, etc. Someone with a B&M shop is going to have to tack on another 10-20% of overhead as well.

I may keep and try and sell the most valuable ones myself, and possibly send those off to be graded depending on what the owner thinks the condition might be. There are five or six that are in the $5k range in 9.8 condition but even a grade 6 or 8 might be worth up to $500. Those ones are likely worth the $30 to get graded but I really don't have the experience to make any kind of determiniation.
